There seem to be a lot of posts about favorite Christmas songs. Don't mean to go all negative, but is there any you don't like? Personally, "Last Christmas" "Merry Christmas (War Is Over)" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" aren't the best. What about you guys?

Cool idea Mayhem. This could be a fun thread!
'Frosty the Snowman'. LOL Even as a kid I didn't like the cartoon. I've got a few Jazz versions of it that are cool. Then I would have to say 'Blue Christmas', 'Gramma got run over by a reindeer' and 'I wana new Baby for Christmas'. Music structurlaly I would have to say 'Sighlent Night'. da.. da DA, da.. da DA, da.. da D. A. A., da.. da DA. LOL But I like the song.

I'll probably get some nasty remarks for saying this, but I cannot stand that dumb "Christmas Shoes" song. I don't even know what the real name of the song is, but they play it "ad nauseum" on the radio.
It's the one about the kid who's mother is on her death bed and he wants (but doesn't have enough money) to buy her a new pair of shoes so she can dance a jig for him before she kicks the bucket!
Bleah!!

I am burned out on almost all the "oldies" we grew up with..."Dreaming of a White Christmas, Jingle Bells, Chestnuts Roasting..., Frosty the Snowman, etc. I am glad to hear some new songs coming out in the past 10 years or so, even if I don't like them all. Wow, Sickie...2 of my favorites, dissed!!!!

I couldn't agree more with EnlightenedGrinch, about ''Newsong'', the group that sings ''Christmas Shoes''. Unacceptable song. (It's from the movie ''Christmas Shoes'' with Rob Lowe, I saw it once (half of it), then I turned off TV...)

Now, songs I do not like? In fact, I really hate them...
Check on these..

''All I want for Christmas is you'' - Mariah Carey :(
''My only wish this year'' - Britney Spears
''Feliz Navidad'' - Jose Feliciano :sadfatsanta:
(and some ...other... I cannot remember right now...)

The first days of December, Greek radios start playing 20-30 Christmas songs for Christmas Holidays.. That's it.. Especially the first 2, are always TOP...
Thank God there is Internet..

Yah!! Somebody agrees with me!! Thanks, Olga. Gee, we're really importing some awful stuff to Greece! No wonder so many countries want to invade us! :)

I HATE that song "So This Is Christmas and What Have You Done?"

I think the title is "Happy Christmas" LOL. Doesn't the song make you HAPPY, Sickie??

well, I gotta say, I am in agreement on the christmas shoes song, blech' also the 3 that Olga said, again, blech. And I must say, the beach boys have some nonsense out there too, don't know the name but dispise it on principal! Also the "Happy Christmas" song definitely does NOT make me happy!!!
I guess I am old fashioned, I love the classics, .
My favorite song is probably "oh Holy Night", but what I DO hate is some red neck moron with a twang, who can't sing their way out of a paper bag or some "pop star" singing , if it can be called that, and totally destroying it. Just cus it is a very popular song does NOT mean every one should try and sing it!!! Sorry, mini rant there, but it truely does bug me!

What is the Christmas shoes song??? I probably know it if you sing a few bars...

I can handle most songs (even Dominic the donkey, lol) but I do get annoyed listening to oldies being redone by someone who thinks good singing is changing octaves every millisecond to show their "range." Those runs are annoying.

''Feliz Navidad'' - Jose Feliciano :sadfatsanta:

I actually like "Feliz Navidad", but the problem is the stations play way it too often.
For those songs you don't like, just do what I do--make up your own new lyrics for them.

OK--Here's the updated "Feliz Navidad":

Police stopped my car,
Police stopped my car,
I see those blue lights and it makes me MAD,

Police stopped my car,
Police stopped my car,
I see those blue lights and it makes me SAD.

He wants me blow in the breath-a-lyzer,
He wants me blow in the breath-a-lyzer,
And so I blew in the breath-a-lyzer,
And I blew it off the cha-a-art!

(Repeat)

So I guess Johnny Cash's version of 'The Little Drummer Boy" is out of the question Bethene? LOL

Mummy deer-est. You hit the nail on the head. Seeing how many notes you can hit in two measures of music isn't singing. Forcing folks to listen to that is called butchering. LOL

Sickie Ickie
06-17-2009, 09:18 AM
Also I can't stand "A soldier's story". As soon as that starts I turn off the radio.

As far as those runs go, I may be showing my age, but I don't understand it. I really don't find it pretty. Of course being an actor, I grew up on musicals (and love 'em!), and my "friends" don't understand the musical stage style of songs either.

well, Putrid, I actually like Johnny Cash, one of the few country singers I do like, and drummer boy is fine, it can be sung by many styles of singers, and be good, as long as it isn't " O Holy Night" some one is butchering, it is a different type of song that required a different type of singing, now Josh Grobin singing it is fantastic, IMHO,
I also agree with everyone about runs, don't like them, don't get them, and they wreak a song!

I have to agree with detesting the "Christmas Shoes" song, but the one that really turns my stomach is a regional one in the Seattle area "Christmas in the Northwest is a gift God wrapped in green" LORD! THAT thing makes me want to lose my lunch every time I hear it (one of the FEW things I don't miss about Washington state! hahahahahaha!)

Craig Church, if it's worst that the shoe song than please keep it up there. LOL I have to admit that I'm bias towards the older and even the religious Christmas songs. But I'm also looking forward to someone coming out with good modern songs as well. ....still looking. Maybe this year.

Bethene, I also like Dolly Parton, but don't tell anyone. I'll deny it.

Oh wow... most country versions of Christmas songs I really don't like. I also can't stand any R&B songs.

Any Christmas song by Jessica Simpson or NSYNC or Backstreet Boys (not that they're really around anymore... but people still play 'em on the radio..)

Much more of a traditionalist if I'm listening to music just by myself - give me the Vienna Boys Choir or Frank Sinatra any day!

I don't like most country Christmas songs. Not so much the songs themselves, it's just that I don't like much country music. Unfortunately, I live near the country music capitol of the world, so good luck finding much else on the radio here!

I dislike so many Christmas songs I really wouldn't know where to start. They play the same ones over and over on the radio until you want to scream. And I am so tired of them since I have been listening to the same ones all my life. Maybe you call them traditional, I call them boring. I guess that is why I like a lot of the "newer" Christmas songs. Imagine if everyone stopped writing new songs after 1945 ( I don't mean Christmas). And we had to listen to the old stuff forever. That is how I feel about Christmas music. Some of the old ones I really love. But I have no problem with new ones too.

A Wonderful Christmas Time - Paul McCartney= one of my favs, BTW. :)

I really don't care much for the more "modern" technology-based Christmas music, such as Trans-Siberian Orchestra or Mannheim Steamroller. As far as traditional Christmas carols go, I really don't care for "We Three Kings" or "The First Noel".
