To make a snowman

These snowpeople look more like the snowmen you'd see out in the wild ( LOL people's and even your own yard). They wont have perfectly smooth sides. Nor will they look like three perfect round balls of snow. They turn out uneven, sometime lopsided. Just like the real thing.

First you'll need to make a cardboard cone about the size of the snowman you'll need.. I would double the cardboard for cones 16 inches or taller. Make the cone thinner than you think you'll need.

Now pad the cone in three balls to look about like a snowman with news paper. Use tape or lightly glued news paper strips to hold the lightly wadded paper to the cone and other paper. This will be the armature for your snowman.

Cover with snot ragging. Or in this case toilet ragging.

Snot ragging.

paper mache glue of your choice.

Toilet paper.

Bowel for the glue.

To set up make some wads of toilet paper. Two wraps around your hand with the role should do for each 'wad'.

Place snowman armature on plastic or work surface you don't mind getting really messy.

Starting at the bottom. Take a wad of toilet paper and dip it in the mache glue. Squeeze as much of the excess liquid out by placing the wad flat between your hands. You'll end up with a toilet paper cookie. The trick to this is to make each cookie damp all the way threw with out being soggy. Now place each one overlapping on the armature. Smoothing out a bit between each one. If your going to make arms please wait till the body is dry. This may take up to 5 days to dry.

To add stick arms. Poke holes and glue them in place.

To make snow arms start by making thinner and shorter versions of the arms you want out of rolled news paper. Glue to the body. Cover with the same snot ragging. Make smaller wads so it'll be easier to work with.

To Finnish,
Paint, or
Paint and add glitter. or
Glue and cover with glitter.

There are lots of different things you could make or use to finish off your snowman. I'll let you pick.

If you try this and have questions please post them. I'll post an answer to your question. Then, if needed I'll edit this how-to.

Putrid, for some reason my brain is just not visualizing this, do you have a picture? This sounds like a fun project.

I have a snowman around here somewhere but not a pic of it. Another one of my 1/2 done projects. LOL

Perhaps the wording? I've gotten people lost giving them directions. LOL

Divide the cone up into 3 parts. Just like a snowman the bottom would be the biggest ball. Think of applying the newspaper (padding) to the cone as a way of taking it from a cone shape to three balls. It's a lot easier to do it than it is to think about it. Unless your really good at it you may never get each snow ball even or perfectly round. When you apply the snot ragging you can play with it to better shape the overall snowman.

To get an idea of how it works draw a 3 inch by 7 inch triangle. Then draw the three snowballs it takes to make a snowman over it. Keep the balls close to the size of the triangle. There will be more padding towards the top of each snowball.

If this doesn't help Carry please let me know.
