What a great idea! Mind if I use it? :D

Ask for barrels at your local U-Haul dealer. They have soap and cleaners that come in the 55 plastic barrel drums. If you know someone there, or if you tell them what you need it for, you may even get it free.

As for marsh mellows, My first guesses would be pillows, carved styrofoam, or plastic buckets.

After you make it, post a how-to at SantasProjects.com We're trying to get it as big as the Monsterlist or HauntProjects (only for Christmas projects, of course.)

ok I will tell you everything and yes of coarse you can use the idea. i just hope it works. I plan on doing a candy layout this year (along with what i always use). So like Gumdrops,Candy canes those new Peppermint lights ice cream blowmolds ect ect. So The Co Co mug should look good if it works.

A thought for the cocoa mug...if you do find a barrel, perhaps a pool noodle would make a good handle for it.

As for marshmallows, styrofoam would likely be the easiest route - you can shape it easily, sand it with a fine grit sandpaper, and it will have a pretty smooth texture for when you paint it.

Otherwise, you may find coffee cans a good base to start with.
Perhaps wrap them in paper, or cloth, to get a nice smooth surface on the outside (perhaps aim all folds and creases to end up on an end that won't show in your display).
You'll probably want to paint them to make them weatherproof.

Ebay sells them but they can cost lots of money. Also check out resturants..They maybe be able to help.

I picked up a barrel for $5 from a local welder when I was making my Christmas train. They get them for free from restaurants and turn them into smokers/grills. I lucked out and they had a lot of extras the day I stopped by. Mine had contained molasses - clean it out well, the wasps and ants had a field day while I was painting the locomotive.

HoHoHoCandy, I just started the mug yesterday and have a feeling it will take up the next couple weeks and be my only prop to work on right now.

I took your general idea and put a twist on it. How is your coming so far?

No pics until I'm done, so don't anyone even ask! LOL

You'll get to it soon, I'm sure. No way I'll be able to put a large tree out front this year. heh Perhaps next year though.
