View Full Version : Mascot?

I just noticed that it seems as if most Christmas sites have a mascot.
ie. Planet Christmas: http://planetchristmas.com/images/SantaSign3DcdrB.jpg
Constantly Christmas: http://www.constantlychristmas.com/images/cc_sm_main1.jpg
Can we have a mascot for here? huh? huh? Can we? Everyone can be involved and create our own original one!
Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssseeeeeeeeee?? ????

Ooooo ours could be an elf. since we love to create props. and it doesn't seem that any other site has it.
Carrie

Sounds like a good idea to me. But it would. I designed and drew Clarence, the Constantly Christmas snowman mascot.
An elf would be perfect for here! I love that idea.

Nice job on the snowman Carrie he's too cute!!

A elf sounds great! I'm waiting for Larry to chime in, too.

Not a bad idea at all!
An elf would be good.
It has to be REAL good though.

Thanks, Larry! We all agree that he has to be good. If he isn't, Santa won't stop by this year. :p

On an added note, I plan on learning and selling wire frames this upcoming year at craft shows, so I'll even try to make our elf into a lighted wire frame for Christmas Fan Club get togethers! :)

Excellent!
I certainly noticed that elves (at least for me) seem to be a bit more of a challenge than some other things, but we can probably handle it!:)

That elf seems more about making merry than making decorations (not that I am complaining mind you, I once sat in Santa's lap at the mall when I was 22 or so and ask for his elf's phone number for Christmas!)

Here's a suggestion of three characters from the 3D world. Well, two real and one who thinks to be an elf ;-).
http://typo3.webetiser.com/fileadmin/sites/JigetiserXmas/images/XmasElves600x480.png
Which one is your favorite?
Sickie Ickie

These suggestions are awesome! Let's set a date to have all suggestions done by, then we'll do a polling vote on which to pick. What do ya say?
larry
11-10-2008, 10:03 AM
That sounds good. Keep in mind everyone that we cannot use something that we just "find" on the net as it would be copyright infringement. We must have full legal rights to the graphic. And it should be available in high resolution and good quality.
Thanks!

Do we wanna keep the elf thing or can we do some other suggestions?
E.g., a snow men like this one (I'm in hurry so I take the 800x600 from our homepage):

Other suggestions are great. It should be a "simple" mascot that can be used with many things including the logo. It should look good small and large with no background.
Thanks all.

Im sure this idea wont fly for a mascot, but I can try.
This is only a quick mock up of my idea, not fully rendered or clothed yet.
Figure I would toss the idea out there…never know.
As said was a very quick idea.
I didn’t bother to dress him in his elf attire yet or clean him up for that matter. Just a quick idea. Any takers?
p.s. would be very high rez,. Entire logo/mascot image cleaned up, legs and body would be in proportain……sorry best I can do for a christams kinda idea.
Ill finish it anyways and post my full idea for fun.

I think you're pulling my leg, rain. :p
Well, there's a difference between combining 3D models in a scene and render an image from it, like I do, and creating such 3D models. Everything you can see in my pictures is bought or collected from free offers. Nothing modeled by myself.
When you follow the route like I do, the next step is creating textures for existing models (http://posable.avatiser.com). I already did this for gothic characters. Here's the latest:
http://posable.avatiser.com/fileadmin/sites/AvatiserPosable/images/AVA-Gothico-M4-TC2-Vampyr600x600.jpg
The skin is a post-processed release of a real skin merchant resource I bought.
Next step would be modeling. Maybe some morphs to get a nicer face ;-), then clothes and the like. But, I'm still struggling with all this.
So, in the end I can only search for a similar model to your sketch. But, I'm afraid I haven't one.

Reminder:
Since whatever mascot is chosen will be used in many ways including possibly with logo and service mark It is important that they are COMPLETELY legal and that you have the legal right to let us use it.
This means that any derivate of an image that you have found online is probably not legal. If it is an image that you have “found”. It is probably not legal.
It should either be completely original and I will ask you to prove that it is legal to use in a logo and or service mark.
If you wish to submit a graphic, it is VERY appreciated.
If you submit a graphic that is not legal, it will considered an attempt to defraud the forum and will be addressed accordingly.
If you wish to withdraw a submission previous to this post, please send me a private message and I will delete your post.
Asking for something to be legal is not too much to ask.
Thanks very much for your help and your submssions! :)

As for Larry's comment on legal use, thats the reason I pulled my entry. After sending in all the images, (to Larry or forum admin) where I got them, how I made them and the rights that came with them, it was determined that it wasnt 100% for legal use.
I agree on the legal part/usage thing....most know im that way. I overlooked a few things.
Anyways, I felt I needed to say why I pulled mine, step up to the plate and explain why.
Im just glad I sent in all the info and my overlook was caught. Thank you Sir.

If we were ever to use that, we may need to omit the sign as we are getting a mascot to go with our logo. Not replacing our logo. But the way he is drawn that would be easy for me to do. I would be able to flip him and have him lean on our current logo.
