Well, about 11:30 last night my 3 yr old full of energy son was running around the room, tripped and fell on the hard floor, hit his chin and had much blood all over.

We took him to the ER, and there was only one person ahead of us. We have no insurance right now, but at an ER it doesn't matter anyway. We were seen shortly after, and the nurse gave two pain killers while taking vitals.

We were taken to another room where we waited hrs until a nurse came in and cleaned his wound. Of course they pick the time where his pain meds were wearing off, sending my son into screaming pain. Then they left, while we calmed him down.

About this time my son decided he had enough and was begging to go home.

A looooong while after that, the Dr came in, and sent my son into screaming pain again, while she stuck a hypo all around inside the small gaping wound to shoot him up with numbing solution. Then she sewed 5 stitches and told us another nurse would be in shortly with a topical and bandage.

After waiting another hour and still nobody (It takes a LOT to light my fuse), I went in search of a nurse to find out where the discharge papers were. I told my wife to screw the topical and bandage, we'd put on the neo and bandaid ourselves, besides, my kid was crying to go home after this torture to make him better. They would have prob charged us another $50 anyway for this.

The brought the discharge papers, and we signed and when out like a bat out of Hell.

In short, we had a nice doctor, but very little communication in the staff and SLOW! We got there at midnight and left around 6am.

no wonder kids are taught to hate hospitals. (sigh)

I may be waaaaay off here, but doesn't it make sense that if you torture a kid with the cleaning, you do the needle and sewing at the same time? After all, this isn't an inquisition.

Anyway, the short part is, my kid after sleeping all day today feels a lot better. And yes, I put neo on it and he's doing fine. After a week, I may even remove the stitches myself. Grrrrrrrr....

What a night dude! Your son will bounce back from this faster than you will. LOL Change the bandage 2 or 3 times a day but don't put Neo on it but once a day. It'll heal faster if it's not kept as moist.

It always amazed me just how under staffed hospitals are at night. I spent night after night with my x in them. Get a phone call at work and either she's on the way or waiting for me to take her. Sometimes twice a week. Get there and sit. And sit. And ....sit. And your absolutely right. Your son should have been medicated and treated at the same time.

Sickie, I'm really sorry that happened..that really stinks and I know somewhat how you feel. My son ran into the corner of a wall, split his head open right above the eyebrow (he has a lightning scar like Harry Potter now) when he was about the same age. Blood was everywhere, he was crying and I whipped him over to the ER here. When the nurse came in, a doctor came in shortly after, they cleaned him up, gave him an anesthetic, and did 8 stiches in his head. Our experience with the nurses and doctors, fortunately, was a good one..but waiting to get the heck out of there took forever. They did the clean up and stiches without a delay, so I think that what you experienced was really rotten. Your little guy will get over it pretty fast, he'll heal up quick I bet.

Stitches look good too, and the redness and swelling is going down.

Sickie, glad he is ok.....those ER rooms can really try a persons nerves....ya think that they would work on bettering themselves in those areas of the hospital.

glad your little guy is doing better, Sickie, I agree, if you are going to do anything to a wound on a little kid, do it all at once and finish fast, makes no sense to make the poor kid, and his parents, go thru it twice!

Well, I removed his stitches Wed afternoon when he decided to take a nap (which is rare!) He didn't feel a thing, and it's looking good. The neo has helped heal it. Soon, on to the vit E to limit scarring.
