Thanks Sickie Ickie, but not really. I get some choices off of the listmania on Amazon and some of the jazz forums I belong to. But mostly I use the tabs on the new widows explorer and switch between half.com, amazon and cd universe. Find them cheep on half and see if I can hear them everywhere else. LOL Generally new to jazz so I'm kinda in the dark as to who sounds like what. I know what I like. Unfortunately for me most of the stuff they call jazz is easy listening. Kinda like getting country music when your looking for classic rock. But thanks for the compliment dude!

First CD came in today!!! Man that was fast. Digging a organ, guitar, bass and drums combo doing a Jazz version of "Winter Wonderland" as I type. Sweet. What's nice about most of the CD's I have coming is they feature a mix of different artist and Jazz styles. Kinda like "A Charley Brown Christmas" to the the tenth power. Swing, New Orleans, Bebop (personal favrorite), Hot, Acid, New York and slow and moody as well. Even some blues. It's all good.

3 more of the CDs came in today. Jammin out on five+ minuet long "Little Drummer Boy" done in a 6/4 Afro/Cuban clave polyrhythm. ( 6/4 count is something like 1 2&3 4 5&6.) Also have a real sweet version of "Christmas Time is Here" sung by Rosemary Clooney that puts the Charley Brown one to shame. I also have "Deck the Halls" preformed by two stand up basses and a drummer. Sweet. Can't wait till the rest of them show up.
Just for kicks if ya'll want to hear a bit of "The Little Drummer Boy" follow the link and click on the song from the CD track list.

Wile I'm still waiting for the last 5 Jazz CDs to come it I had to add a few more. LOL Not jazz but still good music. I was on Half.com and something happened that has never happened before. SOMEBODY bought a CD AS I was looking at it!!!! They got the .75 one!! I had to pay $2.98 because I really wanted it. I compared songs and artists and chose CD's that gave me the overall best verity of songs. I ended up with a few duplicate songs. Ten of the same songs but sang by different artists. A grand total of 34 different songs from the 3 CD's with various artists. Then I had to get the Parry Como CD for one song. "Do you hear what I hear?" It's the same version of that song I has as a kid. Paid more for that CD than the other 3 combined. But it's worth it to me. I really like that song.
CD's I bought,
Do You Hear What I Hear? ...Various artists
Christmas: 16 Most Requested Songs ...Various artists
The Christmas Album ...Various Artists
Perry Como Greatest Christmas Songs
I have one or two traditional English CD's with loads of cool old songs. ( "Holy and the Ivy", "Boar's head" and the like) Would like to find a few German, French and Italian as well.

Three more Jazz CDs came in today. Got my first '? it sounded like a good idea?' CD. ( like ya'll never done that. LOL) But one out of ten, or as it is, nine so far isn't bad. Listening to one right now that spans a time frame from when everything was recorded in mono to stereo. I'm listening to Charley Parker All Stars version of 'White Christmas' in mono. It's so old it sounds like someone wrapped the mic with toilet paper. LOL Man it's cool. One take with one mic live in front of an audience. You'd never here for folks doing that today. Perfection makes music cold.

Be nice to have a real Jazz station here in ST. Louis. Don't think I can pick up Chicago from here. LOL
Two more CD's came in today
A Jazzy Wonderland. A bit more modern Jazz and less bebop. And some blues. I'll mix it in with the rest of them. It's all good,
Perry Como's Greatest Christmas Songs. This one's hard to listen to. LOL Picture 1950's Disney. Full orchestra and choir. Highly recommend this one for kids. There's a few good ones that I'll use in a mix. Unfortunately it's not the version of 'Do you hear what I hear" that I grew up with after all. The little bit of sample I got to hear sounded a lot like it. Still good. Still looking. To play this in the car with it filled with my friends? Drop it in after some Pantera or Megadeath? I'll get beat up. JK LOL But it would be cool to play it LOUD at work.

The first station I haven't hear and will check out. The next two have been around for a wile. They might play one song between them every 2 hours. They're 90% talk radio. I was listening to WSIE wile they played a real early recording of a Jazz drummer playing and talking about what he was doing. The cut it in half. They were going to play the second half in 2 hours. 15 minuets of music and 1 hour 45 minuets of talk. And think about it. Jazz/Bluegrass??? That sounds like mixing tuna fish and ice cream. LOL
I'll definitely check out KWUR 90.3 FM New Music/Jazz as well. Haven't heard of them before. Hopefully there signal comes out this far.
Thanks for the heads up Sickie Ickie. Got a radio to my left. To far to reach will I'm typing.....LOL
Gota go hide that Perry Como CD. Don't want anyone playing it by mistake....LOL

Had to find a way to stay up all night again. (going back on nights starting tomorrow) So I spent a few hours browsing Christmas music on Half.com and listening to the CD's on CD universe and Amazon. I listened threw some electronic techo on a CD called Acid Christmas. New Age from Kitaro. Classical and even polka. LOL Settled on only one.
A traditional Christmas: the gold collection by The Giulini quartet.
More English folk than classical. Earthy sounding. Hopefully I'll like it when I'm fully awake. LOL

I looked threw all the songs I've got after using a spread sheet to sort them by tittle. I noticed to my serprize out of all the Christmas CD's with folks singing on them ( not coral or choirs) I only have ONE version of "Angels we have heard on high". That's out of 17 CD's LOL. So I searched and now I have 8 more CD's coming. More of the .75 cent ones from Half.com. It's not overkill. Not all 8 CDs have that song on them. LOL There are other songs I only have a few versions of.
I also found that I have two CDs that have the exact same songs on them. The CD tittles are Holiday Favorites forever gold, and Holiday favorites with the Christmas All-starts. They both came out in 1998 and look completely different. Two out of all of them aint bad.
Also getting a small but growing pile of 'muzac' CD's. Holiday elevated elevator music. And a few with folks singing that either didn't get paid or needed a class project. (lost a bet..LOL) They were all bought cheap at wal marts or the like. Not knocking that at all. I've got plenty of cheap CD's that are really good. These are just the small exception to that rule.
After I get all the Jazz CD's listed I'll start with the Classical. By then I should have more to add. LOL

If this doesn't display my obsessive compulsive behavior like a spot light nothing will. LOL I searched Half.com again and now have 3 more CD's on the way. Each CD contains 80 to 90% of either artists or Christmas songs I didn't have. I things I should point out that all but 4 Cds ( one frank, one bing, one perry and one english) have various artists on them. That's the only way I'd end up with artists like 'Tennessee Earny Ford' and Kenny Rodgers. LOL I do have a few songs by Johnny Cash ( I like his music ) and may end up getting a few CDs by him. The only songs I'm still looking for on these type of CDs are 'Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer' by Burl Ives and "Santa Claus is coming to town by Fred Aster (sp?). Can't believe out of all these CD's I don't have them. LOL I also have nothing by Dolly Parton. I'll have to get at least one by her. Wonder if I could drive my neighbors crazy by mixing Dolly, Johnny and some Jazz and play that over and over outside. LOL

"Christmas with Bing Crosby" came in today and so far every song on it is a different version of the ones I already have. I don't recognize the music compositions. Totally cool!

Four more CDs came in this morning. That earthy sounding English quartet? Yep, it sounded better when I was half asleep. LOL I've now got about 36 hours of just Christmas music. And yes, I'm still looking for the version of 'Do you hear what I hear' I heard as a kid.

One CD came in today. Well, it has a few bright spots. The biggest is it has the very version of 'the little drummer boy' I had as a kid. But it has doosies on it. Kenny Rogers souldn't of tried to sing jazz. ( insert shiver here ) It's good to know I got it cheep. LOL

So I left them positive as well. Not for the CD. LOL I typed in about them refunding and e-mailing me quickly. Gota give them credit for being honest. Oh well, just one CD I didn't get. Got two CD's in today!!! Both are full of great music. Just sent payment off for another CD with a few more songs by artists I don't have. Still don't have any Dolly Parton yet. LOL
So far the hunt has netted me a very good variety of artists and songs.
A few 'what was I thinking'.
Even fewer 'what were they thinking'.
And two songs that I'll never listen to again. (one by angela lansbury and one by kenny rogers...enter shiver here.LOL)
I'm still hunting for a few more. I'd like a good version of 'We need a little Christmas' and still on the hunt for 'Santa Claus is coming to town' sung by Fred Astare (sp?) off the original production.

The last of my CD's came in today. One cool track is 'The Snowman' sung buy both Frank and Bing.
Walking into work this morning the lead of a different department yelled at me to come by. He was giving most of his CD's away.(put everything to MP3s). Told me to take what I wanted. With a good lot of classic rock and easy listening I also ended up with two cool Christmas CD's.
"The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole
"Christmas with Nat King Cole"
One cool track is a live version of "Santa Claus is coming to town".

Three of the 4 Cd's are in. One is great. The one classical Christmas music CD is a strange one. Evidently fearing these composes would sound like everyone else they took a lot of liberty in there interpretations of the music. Some of the songs are completely unrecognizable. Even one attempt at a Jazz version of Jingle Bells. It's to Jazz what Wayne Nutin (sp?) is to hair metal. LOL The songs that are recongizable are really done well. A few good ones makes the .75 cents I spent on it worth wile. LOL
Now the other classical Christmas CD is over the top when it came to re interperting music. It's all done on strings. Violins and the like. It's starts out with a Um Pa pa version of O Christmas tree. Then goes into a almost blue grass version of Deck the Halls. LOL It's a good listen and for .75 cents another great buy. And for good measure the version of 'We Wish you a Merry Christmas sounds more like a score from 'Fiddler on the Roof. LOL
For anyone with an Ebay and Pay pall account in need of good Christmas music Half.com has over 30 pages of music for .75 cents. Now that I'm done looking ya'll can have at it. JK LOL

Well the last of the CD's came in today. It's a real sticker. LOL Muzac all the way. 68 minuets of mind numbing sweetly, tinkly hugly sythesizer sounds. Kinda mislead by the words 'orchestra' and 'choral singers'. More like a bank of technology with 2 or 3 folks voices processed to sound like a big group of singers. LOL
(sung to jingle bells)
sythesizer, sythesizer muzac all the way.
Wouldn't ya know they eliveator's going the wrong way Hey?
I couldn't help it. LOL
Can't complain. I've ended up with a lot of really good music. Quality is way better than quantity. When I finally get a computer that works I'll be able to take the best of it all and mix it down to a few CD's.

Couldn't leave well enough alone. This is becoming a bad habit. But I can't leave this thread with a stinker CD. That'll be my excuse anyway. LOL Got 4 more CD's coming form Half.com. Three are classical. The orchestra in question put out different works. I was able to listen to a few off of CD universe and Amazon. If the three Christmas CD's sound like there other productions it'll be cool. Also have a Bob Hope CD coming. Forgot all about Bob Hope's Christmas stuff. I grew up watching his Christmas shows. Remeber black and white tv? LOL
Let's face it, I'm a music junky. I grew up on classical. I still like the stuff, and 60's- now rock, hard rock, heavy metal, thrash, speed metal, jazz, soft rock, southern rock, disco, new age, new wave, raggae, old blues, .....I wont be satisfied till I hear them all!!!!

Sickie Ickie, I don't listen as much as I used to. But still enjoy a good Jazz CD or two instead of watching TV.
First of the CD's came in today. It has folks ya'll know but with full orchestration behind them. SWEET! I have Frank and Bing singing 'White Christmas'. A version I haven't heard before. Can't really tell who's singing first. After he goes threw the song he says,"Well just don't stand there". Then the other one joins in and they sing a real sloppy duet. LOL
Most of the songs on the CD are versions I didn't have before. With all the CD's I've got that's getting harder to do. LOL
My obsession will continue......LOL

10-31-2008, 01:49 PM
The second of this buying spree came in today. It's full orchestra with a large choir. Only 4 songs on the CD. Each is a medley of 10 or more songs based on one theme. Christmas, Santa's sleigh ride, The Nativity and finally We wish you a merry Christmas. Real smooth and well performed. I'd recommend this CD to anyone who likes a full classical production. With just a hint of humor.
"Christmas with the Mantovani Orchestra"
My obsession will continue....that's a guarantee. LOL

The second CD is 100% classical orchestration with no vocals. Still listening to it now. I'd recommend anything by the Mantovani Orchestra. For anyone who just needs a time to relax and still wants great Christmas music.
