Hey everyone - I'm very excited to be here in this forum. I have a slight obsession with papers. The stationery, invitations, postcards...I love it all. I'm here to really see what kind of unique invitations and prints for papers people come up with for the Christmas season. Thanks!

Welcome! What a great interest to have. I'm sure we'll be able to pick up lots of tricks and tips from you. Have you seen the pop up cards by Sabuda?

Those are Awesome! At first I thought they were just for sale, but the fact that they show you how to make them yourself is very cool. That would be a great project for kids. Even if they didn't end up looking like anything, they would still like to color it and have something pop-up. It's almost origami-ish...

Well thanks everyone. Could someone explain "Blow Molds" to me? My Christmas knowledge and experience is in a pretty limited realm. Thanks!

Carrie and Thomas are the experts, but ya know those plastic hollow statues that store sell around Christmas time and are lit inside by lights? Those are blow molds.

Paperhead, Sickie Ickie explained it quite well. Some people call them "light ups" too. Blow molding is a process to fabricate items from plastic. A milk jug is a blow molded item. In the context of Christmas, its a decoration that uses the blow molding manufacturing process. The item is painted and is lit from inside with lights. In the attached picture, you can see some of my collection of blow molds.

That's a lot of blow molds! Do you make those yourself? I'd love to see how that all works if someone has a link...I can't imagine it's much like glass blowing, or is it?

I'm out in Colorado Springs, CO. 28. I know, I haven't filled out any of the profile info, yet. I mostly just sneak on here during work hours, so I don't participate as much as I'd like...

That's okay, I don't get on as much as I'd like either. heh
Blow molds are commercially made and sold in stores usually around Christmas time as decorations.

Not to hijack paperhead's into post...but Muffy, if you go to a craft store or a target/walmart type store around the holidays, you can find a "make your own card" box set that has almost everything you need and ideas to get you started. All you would need is glue and sissors. I'm sure you would be great at it! :)
