Hi,

The season will be upon us before we know it.

What can we do to make this a better site for YOU!! :)

Well Howdy Larry. Cool to hear from ya. Hope things picked up for ya on the job market. About the only thing I can think of is a bigger photo album. Perhaps a way to save bandwidth on this would be to make the albums a request item. Only members who ask for one will have one.

I'm real guilty of peppering the posts with pictures so I think I can yell at myself for this. LOL Give a way to put pics in posts as pictures, clickable attachments or thumbnails. Perhaps choices when you click on the 'insert image' icon.

If I don't get what I want I promise not to throw a tantrum. Not on line anyway. LOL Great place Larry. I'm extremely grateful you put this forum up. Thanks dude!

Larry, this forum is a breath of fresh air..trust me, I know! LOL

Possibly increase the number of PMs we can store?

But even without that, this site is great and I wouldn't even know how to improve it!

The number of pictures in your album has been increased to 600
The number of private messages stored has been increased to 500. (subject to purging after many months).

:-)

Hopefully everyone will continue to "Spread the word" about our great forum here.

Larry, What a great place you have here! I've had no hesitation telling others about this place. The increased storage for PMs is terrific.

I also appreciate the looseness of moderation here thus far (although I realize at some point in the future that may change some as we grow bigger.) I'm really looking forward to us growing bigger as a group. A bigger family so to speak. :D

I love it here - I hope to be around for some time to come. Great people here and a caring mod, Larry, who actually cares what the membership wants instead of tell them what they want. Everything is great!!

Thanks all so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it.

The membership makes the forum! I like to act as the Dad. Nobody wants Dad hovering over them at the slumber party, but he needs to be around to make sure things are good.

Do you mean real music? I only want to do that if it can be done right. To do it right (and legally), it is expensive. I would like to do it in the future, however not yet.

I opened http://www.halloweenradio.com this year and have to at least break even on it first.

having problems getting this to play, Larry. I click on the "listen now " and it asks me if I want to open the file with real player. I download the file, and my notepad pops up with the title "play-1":

What am I doing wrong?

Firefox is buggy with plugins. You have to have another piece of software configured to stream the feed. e.g. real, itunes, winamp, etc

Make sure that you OPEN the file and do not save it or download it. If it does not open when you click "OPEN" then it is not configured properly.

Larry, first of all thanks for the site. I needed a place like the halloween forums to do the prop making thing, and this will do quite nicely. Second, I would really like to see this place grow and prosper, and I have several ideas. I am a software developer and I understand there are limits using the forum software, but I do not know what these limits are so I am going to just suggest stuff and hope it's possible.

1. 600 x 600 seems dated for picture size, given current disk and bandwidth availability I have seen more and more forums move to max of 1000 x 1000.

2. The entry page of the forum could provide some more prominent navigation selections along with the appropriate pictures and media. For example having some clear links at the very top to highlight gallery's of displays, props, trees, decorations, recipes, etc. The idea is to make the forum more intriging to first time visitors by allowing them to see highlights of the benifits without having to dig through a lot of forums and posts. Users could easily opt out of this introduction.

3. A featured thread of the month, or week or something like that.

Thanks much for the suggestions. The site will actually be going over a major overhaul. Navigation and almost everything will be enhanced.

Love the forum and I'm sure whatever you decide to do with it will be great as well. I am somewhat familiar with the software for the forum as it looks like the same that I have worked on with another forum I used to moderate.

I'm just glad that you provide a free space for us to come and chat about what we enjoy. I just recently left another forum after finding out that if I wanted to participate in much, or even make any changes to my profile, I would have to become a platinum member and pay. Needless to say, most of the restrictions were withheld until I had already made my 25 moderated posts and started getting involved in some of the topics. I felt cheated and used unfortunately.

Anyway...Thanks Larry.

A suggestion that worked well on the forum I moderated was what we called a "Sqwauk Box" and it was just a simple chat board imbedded in the homepage of the forum. Was fun to just so HI or share a quick thought that maybe wasn't worth creating a whole thread about.

We do have a chat room, but we haven't organized much for it.

Chat rooms are fun, but this was more of a 'Chat block" on the front page. Fun place to just say "Hi" when you first got up or you could leave a quick notice if you were going to be missing for the day. More like a quick text message than for a full-blown chat.

Giles, do you mean something like what's on this site?

cigar box nation (http://www.cigarboxnation.com/)

live chat everyone can access has good and bad points. I've seen some really ruff stuff entered on that chat screen by new members, spammers and pranksters.

Suggestions, eh? What a great idea (now if I can think of anything that NEEDS improving here):)

Larry, just wanted to take a moment and tell you how much your (and Sickie's) time and effort are appreciated here. I LOVE this site. If (and I do mean "if") I can think of anything, I will get back to you. However, I am not a software savvy person. I will leave THAT part to the people who know what they are talking about.:)

This may have been suggested before, but can Halloween Forum add a link to ChristmasFanClub on the main directory under other discussions? More HF guests and members will see the link and will come see this site! I noticed that CFC has a link to HF on the main directory.

Yes! I will put that online today. :)

I was trying to get more HF people over here this year so I posted a thread about this forum under off topic at HF. Hope you don't mind Larry. And I thought Giles was talking about something like our "weekly" thread, where we just chat about everything, but on a thread instead of chat.

Larry, I love this forum, and don't know how to improve it. Thanks.

Excellent. Today, I also just started a banner ad campaign for Christmas Fan Club throughout a HF and other sites. That will hopefully help a bit too.

Thank you all so much.
