Someone on my other forum posted a pic of a tombstone they did using a blowmold.

krylon makes a plastic spraypaint now.

That is the TPI Mary, a very nice blow mold and a great way to use it. Very well done and creative! Love it Sickie, thanks so much for posting that picture.

I have some TPI trumpet angels that I want to redo as statuary for Halloween. I have repainted and restored many molds and Sickie is so correct, I only use Krylon for Plastic (and lately airbrush). The angels I want to redo would be done in gray KFP with black spatters and some green for a patina.

Here is one I did redo for Christmas, she is the TPI Ice angel (I removed the horn during the process). I have about 30 of these angels, some painted, a few more icies and a few are earmarked for my Halloween graveyard. What do you guys think? Think she would look good in stone? I'd really like some feedback on this?

Great masking technique, Carrie. I see you use masking tape. Have you tried blue painter's tape?

Krylon makes an airbrush paint for plastic now, too?

I have to admit, I didn't know if you'd freak when I put up that pic or not, since someone ditroyed a mold. heh Didn't know how much of a purist you guys were. Glad to know everyone is okay. heh

I could easily picture those for a graveyard. Have you thought about adding LED eyes?

Oh, one other thang...where did you find flesh color in krylon paint????

Sickie, LOL I'm a purist, but only to an extent..I really can appreciate using blow molds in many different ways and using that Mary as a grave monument was so cool. The idea that I painted an ice angel probably bugged a few hard core "purists" but no matter, I liked it.

I have tried blue painter's tape and don't use it anymore. It doesn't give as clean of an edge. You know how it is sort of crinkly? It takes far too much time to smooth it out and I've found it doesn't hold the edge as well as I like. I usually use a high quality masking tape as well as automotive detail tape. The other thing I used is liquid mask which works beautifully. I highly recommend it.

KFP does not have a flesh tone. The paint on the angel is a Krylon paint though. Its a hobby paint, can't recall the name (next time I'm out in the garage workarea, I'll find it and get the name for you.) The flesh tone had to be put on really lightly because it does not allow as much light through, but it worked very well nevertheless. The paint I have been trying now is airbrush paint by Createx. A fellow over on PlanetChristmas recommended it (can't think of his name off hand, but he gets a lot of credit) and it works extremely well. An entire line of Createx airbrush paints are translucent and they have many more colors to choose from, including a true flesh tone.

Cool. Thanks for the paint names and tape tips.

For masking, have you tried paining on latex? May be cheaper than masker and still peels right off.

Sickie, I've never tried Latex. Where would I get some and can you tell me more? I spent a long time on Halloween Forum last night, just reading and learning. I saw many articles about Latex but did not find where to get it...

Depends if you ned it by the gallon and what uses you are using it for.

For this use, I'm thinking it may actually be cheapest to get some from the nearest make-up/costume/magic shop and test it to see if it works for you. Make up latex will be just as good as slip latex or anything else at this point of testing.

I'm also thinking some eyelash glues are made of latex? Not sure about that, though.

Thanks, Sickie. I would probably try using latex in place of the liquid mask. I'll keep it in mind next time I'm ready to restock. If I can find some latex, I'd like to give it a try, but it wouldn't surprise me if the liquid mask is mostly latex to begin with (the darn print on the jar is so d***med small, I can't read it! LOL)

Mold builder is also latex with latex solids added for more of a gel consistency. Found at Michael's or wherever.
