Hey I was at Hobby Lobby yesterday picking up something for my secret santa, and they are starting to set up their Christmas things, :) - they have ribbon, some of the picks for wreath making, etc, some wreaths, and small trees, and boxes of things ready to go, will have to keep checking them out to see what new stuff they have. The one thing I would like to buy wasn't out yet, of course, but it's starting!! YAY!!:happyfatsanta:

Oh, and they had some fall things out, leaf garlands, mache gourds, and the like, plus a few other fall things.

all are a bit of a drive or me. Tinley Park may be closest at 15 miles away.

Sickie, the closest one to me is about a half hour drive, so I feel your pain. But its worth it, especially when we get closer to Christmas.

With the cost of gas right now, I find myself going less and less distances. :(

Elvira

Oh gas is insane, we're just over 5.00 a gallon. Time to invest in a smart car. I have no idea how anyone would be able to buy anything and transport it home... lol... unless you now invest in a trailer to drag behind it. *Sigh* I don't think its ever a win/win situation.

Carrie

Wow, Elvira! Over $5 a gal? I won't ask where you live, but the news said Chicago and Manhattan were tied for the highest gas prices nationwide..once again, the News was wrong! We're at $4.29 here and I thought that was outrageous. I filled up the other day and it was $60. I'm using my GPS as much as possible now to help figure out the shortest routes, I'm not tooling around going to garage and yard sales this summer. But in a way, that's a good thing..I have no more room to store more Christmas stuff.

Sickie Ickie

That's an accurate price for over here, Carrie. News is reporting for us that over $5 by the end of summer and a possibility of $7-9 by next year.

Elvira

Uh huh... over $5.00 per gallon. Insane! Time to get rid of the beast SUV I think, andddd.... they are predicting about $5.60 per gallon before July.
I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Home of the Loser Oilers! Mini Texas.... UGH! Rich in oil and gas, but we don't see a break on any of it. Natural gas is a killer as well. Costs me almost 100 to fill up!

Man, I hope they are wrong about the over $5.00 gas, that is terrible Elvira, it being that already. We have a big truck to pull the fifth wheel, but hubby lets it sit most of the time, he has another truck , just a smaller motor, and size, I drive a t-bird, it gets pretty good gas millage, but hubby just picked up a saturn sc for me, it needs tranny work, but he can fix that. So that will be better gas millage, I don't know how they think any one can pay that , and still have money left over to live on!!

Elvira

Oh I imagine pulling the 5th wheel is not cheap. We have one as well, and we haven't had it out in years, I can't even begin to think what it would cost us to drag it along, its cheaper to stay in a hotel now-a-days.

the nearest HL is 2 hours for me :(

Carrie

Bethene, my husband's car is a Saturn SC..it does get very good milage and its comfortable too. I think you'll be happy with it once your tranny is fixed.

I remember the oil embargo of the 70's (I'm sure some of you do too) and the gas lines and shortages. So many people got rid of their gas guzzlers, I guess that is happening again now.

Just FYI... and I have no idea if there are any of these near anyone here... but Garden Ridge manager told me they should have their Christmas out in the next four weeks.

I was at a Hobby Lobby late last week and while they didn't have anything out yet, they had all the area/shelves cleared... just a matter of time!

Ryan

Wow, in the next 4 weeks? We don't see anything christmas on the shelves until halloween is done. LUCKY DUCKS!

What are you shopping for Ryan? Any big props planned?

Carrie

Elvira

Is Garden ridge similar to Michaels? Or something of that nature, or like a dollar store? We don't have Garden ridge either.

Sickie Ickie

We have Michael's here, Home Depot, and Menards. Walmart and Target of course.

Franks, Builder's Square, Ben Franklin's, All the Makings, Joanne Fabrics, the local fabric store and our local hobby shop all closed down.

*sigh* I actually miss kmart! Think I'll just go cross border shopping and find one. LOL I'm amazed it never survived here.

WE have a K-mart down the street. heh I almost never go there. go figure.

Elvira

When my girls were small, we always bought them clothing there, seemed to be better quality than wal-mart at the time. Reasonably priced as they out grew everything so quickly and yet still looked and washed well. Wal-mart, holy cow, scared to buy underwear there sometimes.

It may be worth it if the model is still in them.

Elvira

OH! Yes... for another prop! :D good thinking

Sickie Ickie

Elvira, I loved Kmart too , still do, there is one a ways away from me, I don't get there much, but once during halloween and christmas seasons I try to.
Man Sickie, I almost forgot about Ben Franklins, I used to love that store!! They had so much!!
We don't have a garden ridge here either, I know people on halloween forum talk about what they have for halloween, and it sounds like they have alot

Makes me green with envy! Michaels really doesn't have anything that interests me.
