Ok kids.....I looked back at that old weekly and we started that on Jan. 16th!
Its time for a new weekly!!
I know I have to stop bringing up food ....lol....but I can't help myself I miss Chicago food so much! Last night the travel channel went to Al's on Taylor st. They went thru the whole process of cooking those Italian beef roasts and the whole process of making those sandwiches.....when they bit into that sandwich & the camera zoomed in I thought I was gonna die!!! Ya know you can order them online but OOOSSSHHH!!! the price knocks your socks off!
When my family travels down here to visit Aunt goes to these places & has them package everything separtly and she puts stuff in a cooler & brings it to me!! Once I gave her my wholesale number & she went & got me a case of Vienna dogs & a case of tom tom tamales!!

Should have called it a new semi-annual.
The eastern central US definately has some unique foods. Maid Rites, Tenderloin sandwiches, and really really thick pizza crust. My wife is a native of IL and always raved about Kitchen Cooked potato chips. I found a number for them several years back and was able to have a case shipped here. Now they sell them on their website and ship worldwide. Funny how food is the most missed thing about home.

Totally cool Mistress Muffy. About time too. I bet I'm not the only one on the forum who toyed with the idea of starting a new one. LOL LMAO Spookineer. The last weekly did last about 6 months didn't it.
Don't really know much about regional food here. I think we get allot for everywhere. Kind of a melting pot. Mostly German and Italian. If you go to a picnic or church dinner it's southern fried foods and casseroles. If it's a formal meal it's French or Italian. If your going over to someone's house it's German, Tex-Mex or Italian. And then there's the world of Bar-B-Que. Nothing is off limits. I've had possum and raccoon. You don't ask where they come from. LOL

UUHG!! I've had trouble accessing my free sites on Earthlink ever sense they changed there web site. I go to the page and it gives me an error message and shuts down Explorer. I tried telling that to folks at Earthlink using there live chat help three times today. Shut me off three times. I even got the same person twice. Told them that if you open that page for me it'll shut me off, I got shut off. I was able to type something in capitol letters before I got shut off the third time. LOL ya'll got your head in the gutter. I typed 'If you open that page you'll shut explorer off!'

Hey all...
Sorry I haven't been around. (thanks for the note, muf!)
We've been in a haze with tons of things going on -- one was, unfortunatly, the passing of my grandma. I haven't told the girls yet. I know I'll cry. She was in hosipce for 6 weeks -- barely able to swallow and in pain, so at least she is at peace now.
We lost power for a while here after a horrible storm last week. It decided to start up just as my daughter was arriving home from school. When I walked outside my house it was just starting to drizzle. Whithin minutes things went bad. My youngest almost lost her umbrella when the winds picked up. My pants were soaked unless I huddled down and held the umbrella sideways. By the time my eldest was stepping off the bus, I told her:
"The umbrella isn't going to help you. Your gonna get soaked no matter what. Just run."
So we ran -- only 250 feet. But half way there, I'm carrying my 3 year old, my huge golf umbrella flipped inside out and my jeans are so wet that I had to hold them up so I wouldn't moon all the other kids.
It was fun.

Mummy, I am so sorry about your grandma, will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, !
We have had alot of storms and rain too, things are so flooded every where, and it keeps raining. Well, hopefully it will flow down stream til it gets to Lake Michigan, they say it's way down water wise, this should help, once things settle down.

Sorry to hear about your loved one. Your children will take cues from you to know how to behave. Not fun, but they'll always remember the way you held up. I remember my mom losing two husbands and how she acted. Even though my parents have passed, I still have her actions to give me strength at times. she made a huge impact on my life, as I'm sure Grandma has on you, and you are on your kids.
Power going out? Yep. We had it go out for two days here. Just came back up late last night. Lost everything in the fridge and freezer. Thankfully my 3 yr old didn't freak.

We've finally had a few days of good weather it a row. That blue sky looked funny at first but I got used to it quickly. LOL A couple of months back I bout a bunch of house plants. Thought I'd by a good number and see how long it took me to kill em off. LOL So I got 12 of them. Lost my first one a few days after I got it home. Thing got moldy. Looks Like I'm losing one or two more. Having nine living house plants out of 12 after a few months is really good. I usually turn them into compost in three weeks or less. LOL I'll try repoting them and moving the sickly ones around to see if I can keep them alive. I've used organics instead of chemical plant food and may have to add more lime to knock down the acidicy.

putrid
06-14-2008, 06:43 AM
Wow Elvira, zone 3 would be a tough one to build a large selection of plants from. I imagine you have the same shady plant sellers as we have around here. They play zone 5. The plant wont survive any farther north than zone 6. And just survive means it might die to the ground in a bad zone 6 winter. But because they can grow it in a controlled green house for a few years it's good to grow in your yard. As long as you put it in a sheltered place. Like back in there green houses. LOL Neighbor across the street puts plastic flowers out every year. Real easy to weed around. Just pull em up and mow. Push em back in the ground and you now have a weed free garden. LOL
Carrie
06-14-2008, 08:24 AM
Putrid, sounds like you and I have something really in common..I always end up killing house plants. I can't seem to keep them going for some reason. The record around my house for keeping one alive was 2 years but everything else croaks within months. I need to make a No House Plant sign (let's say an African Violet in the middle with the red circle around it and the slash thingy). Poor things just die when they get in here.
Outside I can keep them going though, what is that about? There are bugs, rabbits, sun, cold, etc. to contend with and they seem to like my clumsy attempts at "nurturing them". But I do use easy to grow stuff, impatiens and petunias, things like that. The other night I finally got around to planting 6 flats of flowers and there are more waiting to go into the ground and the containers.
Anyone do any vegetable gardening? I used to love doing that (actually did pick real tomatoes, corn, lettuce, beans, etc.)
Elvira

Wow Elvira, zone 3 would be a tough one to build a large selection of plants from. I imagine you have the same shady plant sellers as we have around here. They play zone 5. The plant wont survive any farther north than zone 6.
It is tough. Evergreens are your typical, spruce, pine, and fir. Then of course, we can go into trees such as apple trees, birch, ash, willows etc. But, yes... lots of shady plant sellers, they have beautiful perennials displayed (yes...in their greenhouse ) but fail to tell you they will not survive in our climate. I take them home, plant them, and sure they look fantastic for July and Aug, look forward to seeing them the following year, and well.... where did they they go?? LOL The worst part is... these plants are not cheap! Perennials can get very pricey, and I don't mind paying it, if its acting as a Perennial and not an annual. Thats happened to many times, now I am very careful and very leary when buying any sort of outdoor shrub, tree, Perennial, ground covers or vines. I am by no means a horticulurist, and actually lack in knowledge when it comes to selecting the proper greenery and its almost like I have stupid stamped on my forehead when I go into those places. They seem to attract to me and can sell me anything. I guess I am to trusting of them, but now I have learned, research before purchase.
LOL@ your neighbor and pulling up the plastic flowers to mow (weed). I just can't bring myself to doing that!
putrid
06-14-2008, 12:00 PM
Elvira, for perennials the best way to tell what will grow in your yard is by looking at what grows around you. Even if all you can do is native plants it's better than filling a garden with soon to be dead plants. I'll check around as see what I have in books for z3 or 2.
Carrie, most plants need them bugs and things to live. Take away the nature and plants don't live long. That's what happens to most house plants. And forgetting to water ( my experience is showing again LOL) is also a great way to get rid of them as well. LOL This is the longest I've kept plants alive indoors. outside I do shrubs and perennials. Don't have the time for annuals. I'm lazy and only want to plant something once. LOL

Tiger lillies are really cool. And the bulblets that form in the leaf axis only take a few years to start blooming. Mine never had a chance. I wiped them out when I started experimenting to try to rid the roses of RRD. Nothing really lives in toxic waste. LOL
I've been keeping an eye on the active members number from time to time. There for a few months after Christmas it was dropping a bit. Really cool to see it going even higher than when it started dropping.

I have periennials, when my RA was really acting up didn't weed like I should and it got away from me, still playing catch up, alot of flowers died, but I still have alot of Iris's , daylillies and garden phlox, , some others too, but lots of those, so Elvira, , the Iris and daylillies are real hardy, can't kill them if ya try!!
Carrie, I have a small veggie garden, I have tomatoes, cuc's, pumpkin and water melon,we will see how it goes - the past few years haven't been real productive, I am not sure why, but every year I give it a shot again. So far all the rain and heat have been good for them, it is supposed to cool down, so will see if they slow down any.

I have been adding a few things to my yard every year since we moved in this house. Some things I have luck with & some I don't....can tell you all I definately don't have a green thumb.
We have some fruit trees that need help from the local extension so I have to get over there with some of the branches. I bought a wisteria plant this season & I sure hope it does ok. Last year they made fun of me at the beauty shop cause I did not have my porch full of flowers...lol...oh those girls!! Couldn't do it...we started the candy business & had no bucks to do anything. So this year I broke down & bought flowers on my credit card....eeeee!!!
We have little garden but we also planted quite a bit up on the hill behind the house. Thats the neighbors garden so he invited us to come & plant there. Hope we have a lot of pumpkins!! I have to take some pictures for my Aunt so when I do I'll post some here.

Bethene, that sounds nice with the veggies. Is your garden very large? Growing pumpkins has always been something I want to do (I love carving them and carving something I grew would be such a kick!). I love to vegetable garden but never have the time so I stopped quite a few years ago. I used to do postage stamp gardening, it was wonderful and very productive too. In a fairly small plot, only about 16 x 10, I grew all sorts of things. Corn, beans, peas, cucs, lettuce, tomatoes and carrots. I really miss those days and look forward to starting up a new garden when we move (hopefully within the next 2 years).

Man was I disappointed with the History Channel's 2 hour program of the origins of life. All I got out of it in the less than one hour I watched was "we don't know' but isn't this interesting!'. And WHAT a cop out. Now because they can't figure out how life started on this planted some scientists think it started in space???????. Call it 'panspermia'. Personally I think that name came from someone who needed an excuse to use the word 'sperm' in something new. Not like you could label a food or beverage product with that and put in on a store shelf. And basing the argument for panspermia on the 1940's word wide pandemic is all but hog wash. No new bacteria was ever found. Had something survived the vacuum of space and fell to earth it'd still be around today. More likely an unusual chemical compound that poisoned anyone who breathed it in. There is tons of dust falling to earth everyday. ( that's what made the layers.) Not only from our sun but whatever we plow threw as the solar system moves threw space. Ever what to have proof that science isn't an exact science? We're still learning. Just wish they'd lay off the hype.

It always irks me that many times shows treat hypothesis as fact. Or embellish to make a better show. My wife can't understand why I feel this way. heh But then again, I get pissed off when Disney comes out with a historical story and switches facts around. Don't they understand people BELIEVE these new made up facts? aka Pocahontas.

06-18-2008, 05:24 PM
LOL a two hour show that could have just as well been the length of one commercial break. The real slap in the face is the fact that not all life needs air and water to live. Yet they constantly treat the start of life as an impossibility in the environment of early earth. Despite the facts that it did exist during the bombardment period. I'm no expert. But I do know if you have to leave out pieces of the puzzle for your thoughts to make sense your wrong. I'm a Creationist who knows the facts.
At the time of Genesis God didn't create the earth. He separated the waters from the fermenent. The earth was already there. Jesus said he saw satin fall to earth like a bolt of lightning. He had already fallen before the creation of Adam and Eve.
There are several mentionings of 'the others' One from Adam after the fall. Cain, after killing Able, left and created the basis for civilization. With who?
Scientists have traced all our DNA to a single tribe in Africa that still exists today. We ALL came from one place.
Despite the fact that it's been proven that neadratull and humans don't share the same DNA folks are still looking for a common ancestor. All the evolutionary proof they have leads up to the neadratull.
Gather more information and leave out the speculation. It would be nice to hear them say, 'we don't know' and leave it at that.

The movie Disney made out of Pocohontos was awful. They changed so much of the history it was ridiculous. We stated calling it Stinkahontus around here because it destroyed history. After we saw it, we came home and gave our son the known facts about her, it really bugged me.
I rarely watch television, too much junk on it. I'd rather read a book.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone -- you all are so sweet, and such a great group of people, really. We had her memorial on Sat, and while I normally don't cry for things like this, I was a river of tears at this one. All was fine until I got up to give a speech, and then I looked at my cousin (who was a total blubbering mess) and then next thing I know, I couldn't read what I wrote! But it was a good send off for her -- her family was together all day and night, just as she would have wanted. My kids did fine. The little one still thinks heaven is a place to visit, but the older one was happy to know Oma is with Opa.
Now , for the last few days of June, I have weddings to attend, birthday parties to throw, reunions to attend, fundraisers to have, two kids to amuse (what was I thinking with no summer camps?) and a secret santa to make. And lord, I hope none of you will be too picky, cause my brain isn't firing with too many neurons right now.
All right, off to peruse my xmas stuff (again) to hopefully be struck with a lightening bolt of creative energy! I do this now, at midnight, b/c it is the only moment I have when someone is asking me for something!

There were a lot of Christmas items there. Three 9 ft+ thin Christmas trees. Each one different. One had silver mixed in each branch. One was plane and the last was one of those real wood trunk spindly looking things. Two 2 ft tall Santas and a good lot of other decorations. They all sold at good prices. Nothing I wanted. Hey, Putrid, good find, last summer I got a similar one at the flea market, a little smaller maybe, and not happy faces, more scarey, was thinking of making it a start, or basis for a soul tree, haven't started yet, but it's on the to do list - which keeps getting bigger every day!!
Carrie, I don't have a big garden, it probably isn't even big enough for my pumpkins, but I persist anyway, I keep trying.
As far as the show like the origions of life, or anthing like dinnosours, cave men, Aliens, are annoying, they for sure state theory as fact, and whose theory?, I can have theory's all day long on any topic, doesn't mean anything. Also the Notradomus (sp?) stuff, if he is all that wonderful, why do they have to wait til after the fact or twist history to fit his prophesies- why not stop the disasters before?!? Why not just call it what it is, entertainment,

Bethene, LOL entertainment is right! I really get a kick out of the 'what life will be like 1,000,000 years from now' shows. Someone made millions of bucks on a one hour cartoon based on speculation only. Why can't I come up with scams like that? LOL And the caveman shows that turn into scientific soap operas. Even the dinosaur shows have us watching poor little so and so wandering threw the thickets and brush. Why doesn't anyone come out with one that has dinosaurs using a complex language, living in shelters and singing?
The stack of Jacks is only around 15 inches tall. Hope your soul tree comes out looking cool! I've never grown pumpkins but have heard that it takes ten square feet for each plant.
Carrie, bargains is all I can afford! LOL Totally cool find and deal on that pumpkin blow mold.

Well not any blowmolds but a hand full of stuff anyway. Having trouble on my end with the pics so I'll give an account and hopefully get the pictures up soon.
Spent $4.00 last night.
In one box for $1.50
1 partially used spool of 2 1/2 inch red velvet ribbon.
1 spool of 2 1/2 inch semi transparent red/gold wired ribbon.
3 pics poinsettia bushes ( wal mart cheepies).
1 pic big fancy poinsettias.
1 bunch plastic grape vines and leaves. (gona use to deck a wreath)
1 9ft multi branched evergreen garland.
5 6 inch red bows.
1 old evergreen and candy garland.
1 old frosted evergreen and holly garland with plastic fruit and plastic pine cones. Plastic Pine cones!!!! The item I bought the box for.
2 8 ft, multi colored thin tinsel garlands.
1 evergreen rope garland with red and green tinsel holly leaves.
2 very thick red tinsel garlands.
1 roll of 6 inch wide red vinyl ribbon.
1 holly and poinsettia candle ring.
And one partially used bag of plastic snow. I keep everything. It's a habit. LOL
There is also an assorted collection of Christmas stockings and tree skirts. These will be scrapped out. Either written on or stained. Good enough for practice material for craft projects.
Box number 2, $1.00
A 4 ft+ Christmas tree with only 6 branches and the top. It's all there. Each branch hangs from the top of the tree down. Haven't put it together. Full of rat's nests. Will have to be thoroughly washed out. There is also a havy wire ring. I'm guessing this goes with the tree to hold the branches in place.
1 unopened Christmas tree storage bag.
2 Christmas tree stands.
6 plastic candy canes with a ribbon on each one. Two thick ones, four thinner ones.
A tree center poll but no branches to go with it. I have plenty of other branches I might be able to modify to use in it
Third item, $1.00
A really big plastic outdoor planter. Kinda fancy but I needed one anyway.
And a 50 cent can of Pepsi. But I've already used that. LOL
Hope to get the pics up soon.

You always manage to find some great stuff! The tree center pole is great for the santa mailbox, as are the stands. They work awesome. That alone to me is worth at least 5 bucks! You did fantastic. You really have your projects cut out for you now! lol

The ends of the branchs are a bit rusty. Funny thing is I didn't even notice that when I was playing with the tree. LOL The rest of the brown and discoloration is from the rats.
Update on the tree. It's not 4ft+. More like 7ft+. Decided to put part of it together. This thing is shaped more like a ballistic missile than a real tree. 7 ft tall and from 5 ft on down only about 3 ft wide. I got me a Christmas missile. All it needs is some fins. LOL
Here's a pic. The top and only the front set of branches are in place.
http://www.christmasfanclub.com/picture.php?albumid=8&pictureid=65
It'll be a lot fuller with all the branches.

LOL Sickie Ickie. Now that's something I'm sure there's never been in a window display like that in this town. Totally cool! I dub this tree 'Ratwinder' cuz all the rat droppings that have dropped out of it. LOL Don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. Other than clean it. LOL With the branches set up this way it's hollow on the inside. Nothing there but the center poll. Get all kinds of weird ideas for things to occupy that space. Put a few layers of plastic sheeting along the branch supports. Then wrap the center poll with nothing but color C7 flashers. Kinda mod light show from inside the tree. Put a Santa on the inside of the tree. A troll or corpse? LOL Stack the inside of it with wrapped boxes. Don't really know how much you'd be able to see. If I put the tree in front of the attic door I could hide Dottie's food and chewys inside it. Wonder what it would look like if I put a color wheel facing straight up inside of the tree? Lots of ideas just keep coming. Who says you need to spend a lot of money to occupy your time. My mind is racing on a dollar here. LOL I'm cheep and easy to please!

With Pine Sole Sickie Ickie. JK LOL I used the bleach/alcohol/soap combo in a 5 gal. bucket. Used a rag to clean and a garden hose to clear. Got the tree put together by the attic door as I type. Fits that small area nicely. Smells a lot nicer too. LOL Will have to get a better stand for it. I'm not a big fan of those cheap 3 legged plastic stands. I'd like to have a frosted tree. One that looks like it's glazed with ice and snow. I think this tree will work well for that. Just have to experiment to see what gives the best look. Thought about combining Great stuff with hot glue icicles and pine cones for a snow and ice look. Plus use glitter and white paint to frost the top of glass ornaments. That would be the main decorations for the tree. Put an all white Angel on the top to complete the frosty look. More projects to add to the more projects I've already added to the list of projects I'd like to have done. LOL

I still can't get the page for Trilex ( the free web site program from Earthlink ) to upload with out shutting explorer down. I have a new box ( computer) being made as I type and should have it sometime next week. Really hope it's just a glitch in this box. I'm also seriously considering dumping my main web site for now. Haven't had the time to make it happen and I'm paying 20+ a month for something I'm not using. Sorry Sickie Ickie. Was looking forward to getting a few projects on your site. If I can get Earthlinks site to work right on my new box I'll set up a few small sites. They won't be as reliable. Probably more like the Halloween sites that go down because of high traffic. It is just a glitch between me and them. It happened when one of two things happened. They changed the layout of there site. I downloaded firefox and netscape. They think that has something to do with it. I deleted both programs but still can't get to Trilex. The small sites are something I get for free ( a was of saying 'your paying for this weather you use it or not. LOL) from them and would like to utilize it. Be nice to find a free one that wont spam me or the folks that visit the site. Or put up tones of spam on the site. Like adds that take longer than the site to upload or pop ups that can virus folks.

I totally forgot about it too.
But I had a busy weekend, so I was super tired anyway.
The forth was fun -- a cookout at my parents with my sisters family and MIL. The neighbors had a fireworks display that could rival a nearby towns. It was a lot of fun -- another neighbor down the street piled in his whole fam (with grandma and all) into some sort of flat hitch to his truck and hauled them all while they sat in dinningroom chairs to the end of the road to watch it all. Funny.
Then on Saturday had a gaggle of kids here for Sara's spy birthday party. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun too. I think we pulled off a unique but fun day for her. But, wow -- it was my first kids party with mostly no parents, and now I know why everyone has parties outside the house!
Sunday we promised the girls a surprise -- and took em to see Wall-e. I love movie theater popcorn, so I was a very happy girl. It was nice to relax and just enjoy a day as a family with nothing to do or get ready for. Those days seem few and far between this summer.
Anywho...now I have to set up for a fundraiser this weekend....hopefully people will dig into thier pockets!

Don't I wish!
I don't think it's because we haven't had anything going on this week, but because it's been so busy, at least on my end. I've been running around all week like a chicken without a head. ( did that just sound wierd or is it just me?, It sounds a lot better in spanish!! LOL)
Here it goes...
Dear Diary, Fourth of July had about 60 ppl over our house for a bar-b-q, lots of kids over. luckily no one lost an eye or burned any parts of their body with fireworks this year, but there's always next year.(yikes) it was an exhausting evening. needless to say my house was trashed with the amount of kids we had over, because even though their dripping wet from the pool, they still want to come inside the house to play games. And their parents see nothing wrong with this. I have yet to shampoo the carpets, maybe tomarrow.
Saturday evening my sister spent the night with her 3 kids so the kids could play some more in the pool. we bar-b qued whatever was left over from the night before. They didn't leave till 8pm.
Sunday morning went to Great America with cousins and their kids for our traditional annual outing. Didn't get back till 11:30pm. My legs were killing me from walking in flip flops all day long. that auhgt to teach me!!
Monday morning went hiking 4 miles ( because my legs enjoy the torture)with hubby the kids and my niece who spent the whole week at our house. Why? because I'm glutten for punishment. Very hot and muggy, and we forgot the bug spray! lots of Fun!
Tuesday went to my sisters house who lives 45 minutes away from me, because we didn't get enough of each other when she spent the whole weekend over at my house, so that we could take the kids to the water park by her house because the pool at our house is'nt enough fun. guess what? forgot the sun screen now I have to sleep on my stomach to avoid the burning sensation on my back. only to go back to her house whos air conditioner is broken and swelter in our sweat while the kids played some more. Then to come back home get stuck in traffic for an hour because of constuction and a four car pile up. Thank goodness it wasn't us.
Wednesday nephew sleeps over. Why?? I don't even know how it happened , because by now I'm delirious. this day is a total blackout because I can't remember anything I did on this day. Seriously!!
Thursday went to the zoo, started to rain decided to stick around in the rain b/c the kids were super exited that the animals were so active. Guess the animals like playing in the rain as well as the kiddies. had to clean car that evening because of my wet soggy muddy kids, did I mention I still have my niece over. But I can't remember if my nephew was with me that day. I'm pretty sure he's safe at home with his parents, because no ones called me yet to see how he's doing. Although I've been so busy this week I haven't had time to check my answering machine. (Do ppl even still have those anymore... or is it all voice mail now adays....I wonder.)
Friday, super fun today because niece finally goes home today. made a huge breakfast this morning on the account that I'm celebrating ( secretly to myself). will save the dishes for later. Hubby wanted to go bowling with the kids, I said go ahead, he said " no honey, come along it will be fun " which it was, untill my son dropped ball on my little toe and now it looks like my big toe. and niece accidently drips nacho cheese on my three year olds head, so now hes screaming his cheesy little head off. My husband was right, it was a lot of fun. Evening time comes around time to take niece home, by now its rush hour and driving can be quite clumbersome when you have two big toes on one foot. finally get to our destination, can't quite go home yet b/c nieces parents are so grateful we had their daughter with us this week they wanted to treat us to dinner and a movie. had pizza for dinner for the umpteen time this week ( because how can you go wrong with pizza) Went to see Hell Boy, at the new Muvico theater in our area. never been there before, very nice. liked it better then the first.
And then, to end my super fun evening I wanted to drop on by here and say Hi! to all you fine ppl. I hope everyone had just a great week. and hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.
As for Saturday, I still have all those breakfast dishes to take care of, have to Shampoo the carpet, wash all the wet pool towels, go buy groceries, run some errands....... the list goes on and on....
Sunday I will be out of commision so untill next rant, I bid you farewell! :)

Looking threw all three of these old Christmas mags kinda makes me glad we are where we are today. Not just the decorations. LOL Although I'd have to admit, there are some cool looking decorations with instructions on how they're made. However some of these things would never turn out looking like they do in the pictures. Like some of the adds in these mags there was no guidelines for content. LOL Imagine using Krylon spray paint to
add 'personal touches' to gift wrapping. How? LOL Yes there is an add in the 1959 mag for
Krylon.
Christmas time is Krylon time.
Brighten up holiday hobbies in a jiffy.
This Christmas......A new look for your refrigerator.
Easy way to glamorize your holiday centerpiece.
Put your personal touch on gift wrappings.
Make wreaths and evergreens look really festive.
Spruce up for the holidays with a new kitchen color scheme.
Krylon glowing fluorescent colors make old toys look as if Santa just delivered them.
Ideal for do-it-yourself gifts- lamp shades, ashtrays.
Give old evening slippers a new lease on life for the parties.
Christmas trees take on a striking fluorescent glow with Krylon Glowing.
"Colorful holiday decorating the "PUSH BUTTON" way with Krylon spray paints."
This add is particularly scary. I do believe that in the 50's they were still using radon particles to make things glow. Nobody knew anything about radiation.
The other thing that's real evident is the total lack of any ethnic group pictured. It's hard to imagine that kind of racism. Make's this fat old white guy proud to say we've come a long way.

Hi gang, its been a busy week for me too. Working every day, cooking, cleaning and a trip out to see my Aunt (she has terminal cancer..sigh). I haven't been posting much, just no time but I have been working on stripping and repairing some blow molds.
Putrid, in your old Christmas mags, are there any pictures or ads about blow molds? If there are, I sure would love to see them!
Nancj..we also have an "answering machine"..yeah, I know I know, behind the times, but it works, we own it, so why pay for voice mail? LOL BTW, how was "Hell Boy"? I watched a "making of Hell Boy" on showtime the other night and it really looked cool!

I'll have to go threw again but I don't think so Carry. There may be some pictured, I'll have to look. There is a cool add for Reynolds Aluininum shoing a 'new' silver Cristmas tree and a bunch of appliences made from aluininum. The last sentance of the add reads,
"For names of aluiminum Christmas tree manufacturers write, Reynolds Metals Company, PO box 2346-AE, Richmond 18, Virginia."
Not even a zip code was needed back then. LOL
No turth in advertising here either. The tree pictured has got to have 400 branches on it. LOL
Yes, I have an answering machine too. I don't own a cell phone. Or a DVD player, or an MP3 player, or a lap top, or a GPS system or a vidio gaming system. The only item out of all of that I might get is a DVD player. One of these days. LOL

Carrie I enjoyed Hell Boy alot. I didn't care for the fisrt one too much, (I'm not into the comic book movies that much) but this one was really good. I would go see it again. I think there might even be a part 3 in the works.
Putrid those mags are such a cool find. I love going to the antique shops and looking through all the old magazines. it's like looking into someones window and seeing how ppl lived backed then. I was just thinking the same thing about the radon particles. scary when you look back at all the things ppl used back then in their everday life. for instance hairspray, what girl couldn't live without it in the 60's contained vinyl chloride, a cancer causing product that wasn't known untill the late 70's erarly 80's. I wonder what our magazines today will look like to the next generation when they find them in antique shops.
And your right I wouldn't trade my long hectic week for anything in the world. I always have someones kids in my house, I love having them around. this way I know that their safe, staying out of trouble, and you get to know who your kids hang around with. all in all it was a good week.

Totally cool Nancj. I said wrong when I stated radon, it's uranium. Radon is a gas. Oops, sorry about that. I also ran across an add for a glow in the dark ink pen. You don't have to turn on the light to see what you write.
Carry, I haven't run across any blow mold adds or displays yet. Kinda have to take the mags a little at a time. My sinuses are killing me. Mold aliergies. The only manufactured out door display items I've seen so for is a set of 6 ft tall metal candles with built in butane torches. Claims the candles will stay lit unattended for 36 hours. That's what everyone needs. Six foot tall unattended butane torches on there front lawns. LOL Most of the out door displays featured in the mags are home made. Mainly wood and paper mache. But suprisingly huge displays. Be cool to help bring this back into the main streem.
I think I could type for hours just listing all the off the wall stuff that's in these mags. LOL
Did go yardsaling this morning. No Christmas stuff but did come home with a 1300+ page book on accounting for $1. And a 14 inch tall cowboy on bucking bronco statue. His head had been broke off. When I asked how much for the headless cowboy she said. .25. So I took the head and body and used some Gorilla glue and it's in one piece now.

Other than a few old planters this is the first sculpture I have. Really cool because I wanted something like this but could never afford it. It's not perfect. Got some paint missing. Guess I could match colors and touch it up. Be another project I'll put off. LOL Because of the way the break on the neck was I'm not sure I have the head facing in the exact direction for the piece. It's not backwards so it looks good to me. LOL
I'm typing to ya'll from my brand new ( used ) computer desk. It's nice. The old (used) desk will probably get cut down and used as shelves. It wobbled a lot and didn't have room for both a keyboard and mouse on the pull out tray. I paid .75 for it. I paid $4.25 more for this one. LOL I have a shot of the old and new desk. I'll also take a shot of the cowboy sculpture and put them in my 'random shots' album.
Talked to my computer guy today. He's had trouble getting stuff from some of his suppliers. It'll be sometime next week before I get my new box.

Sickie Ickie
07-13-2008, 11:29 AM
you could always do a Carrie, strip it and make it look like wood
Carrie
07-13-2008, 04:30 PM
Putrid, I was thinking you could cover over the molded one with a real cloth one, that would hide the repaired neck and look pretty cool too!
putrid
07-13-2008, 05:32 PM
So I take it you don't like the rope idea....JK LOL That could work Carrie. However more than likely I'll leave it this way. Not because I don't want it to look better. Because I have way to many other projects and things to do at the moment. Or because I'm lazy. LOL
I had thought about refinishing the piece Sickie Ickie. Only instead of wood I thought about bronze. The original sculpture is in bronze. But I kinda like the colors it has now.

Look great till you get the lights on em. LOL Down but not out. Here's a few of my latest succeedingly wrong ideas.... I thought about looking for a used white mica sink top. Barrow a belt sander, use 40 grit sand paper and grind me some snow. Then I thought, hey, I work in a glass factory. What about ground glass? Ideas that went from bad to worst. LOL Think I'll try the white glitter. I'll need a lot of it if it works.
Think I might go back threw all my posts and see how many projects I've tried sense I joined this forum. Make a tally of how may worked, or in the case of my experiment with those glass Santa faces ( bet the paint is still wet.LOL) how many didn't. LOL And by the way I still have one more thing I'm going to mix with lacquer to try to get that old world painted glass look. 'and if it doesn't work, I'll probably post that too. Auction crowds are hard to read at times. A few weeks back there was 8 to 10 really big out door planters. I got one for $1.00. Could of picked up all of them for 1.00 each. Last Friday the planters that I didn't take were re auctioned. Sold for $3.00 up to $9.00 each. It really depends on who's there and what they want at the time. The old phone stand, who's shelf is still sitting in the garage and needs to be glued together, $1.00. If it wasn't for buying other folks stuff I wouldn't have much.
Dressers in my bedroom,
Couch and chairs, end tables, coffee table, bookshelf, 1800's store cabinet, lamps, most of the pictures, most of the stuff sitting on stuff.
Table and chairs, small appliances, microwave and stand, some of the pots and pans and utencels.
Tools, leave blower, extension cords, lawnmowers...
A lot of the Christmas stuff.
Two computer desks, some chairs, fans, all in one steries. Including the one I got last night for $7.00. Everything works on it!
Can anyone say. 'Sanford and Son'.? LOL

Thanks Elvira and Bethene. Elvira, they don't need repair at all. Almost brand new in appearance. I don't have the wiring to put a lot outside that needs power. House was built in the 60's. So these might end up on both sides of the TV set. Be nice if they make the energy saving bulbs the sizes I need for all these blowmods. Guess I'll have to look at Lowe's or HD for em.
It's funny. I don't have outdoor outlets. But I do have outdoor light switches for both the eaves over the garage and front door.

Don't remember where I bought the knobs at. LOL I still have one more of the 1800's store 9 drawer cabinets and was thinking of cleaning it and putting that in the office as well.
Talked to Dave, my computer guy, and it wont be till Monday or Tuesday of next week before I get my new box. Give me more time to get the room finished.

Nice blowmolds! I wonder if a cool straight florescent light would light it up beter from the inside vertically, as well as saving money for electricity?
putrid
07-19-2008, 06:16 PM
With a whole in the top of each one I don't think a florescent tub would work to well but. But that is a cool idea. Put em on a dimmer so they flicker. Bring a bit of the Halloween spirit into the display! LOL
Elvira. When I got them home I kinda eyeballed the wrings of holly leaves and berries around each one and started thinking.....LOL But I wont. I've lived around antiques most of my life. These are in almost pristine condition. Like they've never been displayed. Can't bring myself to redoing them. However that snowman I got a few weeks back has some damage and faded paint. But that might not be a project for this year. I got to many other things I have to catch up with. LOL I would love to find a few beat up and faded that I can get cheap just to try Carrie's How-to. You know I have that Santa ornament that I repainted to look like he's only wearing a coat and boots. Got his backside facing out the window. Kinda my joke for the holidays. Wonder how much trouble I'd get into if I re-did a blowmold for the front yard in the same way? LOL

The desk is still in the kitchen at the moment. I'll be moving it in this room tonight. Got the room mostly painted. The color I chose was from Wal-mart so didn't make it to Lowe's or HD today. ( in case your wondering is a Dutchboy color BO31. LOL) Also bought me a new printer for the new computer that I'm still waiting for. Been a wile sense I had a working printer. Be nice to finally get to some of the Halloween projects that I need a printer to complete. Mad scientist lab with a mix of old and new tech. I'll use the printer to make push button panels and displays. Plus warning labels, the rings around knobs and meter gages. It's a project I started on 2 years ago. So the Christmas stuff isn't the only thing that gets put on the back burner around here. LOL
Now to get the desk moved, the table and chairs out of the living room. And maybe even get the two frosted trees back in the garage for a redo on each. Well maybe tomorrow...LOL

Went threw all the old Better Homes and Gardens Christmas mags and learned a few things. First there is not to be found one grape vine wreath, smily cutesy cartoony farm animal or any craft or decorations purposely meant to look beaten up or sloppily done. Secondly I've come to the conclusion that looking threw mags that only have one race of people is disturbing. The most disturbing picture is one of an out door display featuring a group of sheep. The three white sheep are on one side. All smiling and happy. The one black sheep is looking down and is all by itself. I'm an old white Italian and even I find that disturbing. Thanks to Thomas's thread on the first electric silver tree I've learned that the add for the aluminum trees in my 1959 mag is one of the first to feature those trees. And in the 1957 mag there is a reference in an article about making your own extension cords to new light bulbs that wink.
Page 53 of the 1957 Better Homes and Gardens Christmas Ideas mag.
"New bulbs that wink on and off.
New "twinkle" bulbs are available in limited quantities this year. In popular colors, each bulb blinks on and off independently of the others.
A 6.3-volt bulb, they're used indoors or out."
Has a picture of someone holding a C7 size light bulb. Could even be a C6. But not big enough to be a C9. Be totally cool if this is the first year for those as well.
I would also like to let Carrie know that there is no mention of any out door blowmolds. Sorry, that would have been cool too.

Putrid, those magazines sound like they are truly fascinating. As to the "one race" thing, all I'll say is I hear you. As an old white Greek lady, I think we've come a good ways, but we have a long way to go yet. I would love to see this magazine in its entirety. It must be so interesting to have that "snap shot" of another time, especially at Christmas time. All the ads would give a great insight into the era, the mind set, and the demographics of the target audience.
The twinkle bulbs are still popular, would love to find some of the old ones that are still in good shape.

Carrie, the mags are cool to go threw. I wish I could post more pics form them but Larry has a rule about posting copyrighted stuff on the forum. I could fill Sickie Ickie's thread on Christmas trees. Some of these threes are way past being weird! LOL
I'd be easier to find one of the bulbs than it would one of the extension cords. LOL You get two cloth covered wires, twist them together and attach the two prong plastic ends. Scary by our standards but that's the tech. they had then. The bulb itself looks to be a little wider around the mid section than the bulbs we have now. Other than that it's looks like any other clear bulb.
I think Sunday blended into Monday for me. Got nothing done again. Not overwhelmed, just overly lazy...LOL

Wow Putrid those are really old issues. When you mentioned old magazines it made me think about the lecture I got this week from Jerry about all the years he has spent moving my books & boxes of magazines!lol
The halloween Forum is having a scary scene contest & we are gonna be hanging out at the house for about a week & a half so we had been talking about entering this contest if for nothing else but to get the garage cleaned out. Remember me mentioning that its like a maze of boxes out there. Well he really got going with all of that mess & maybe it might just be possible to enter this contest. I feel bad cause he works & I sit & go thru boxes. We for sure have to have another exit for our trick o treators this halloween.
So anyways.....I just wanted to point out that I do save my old holiday ( even have a handful of Grandma's old holiday magazines) magazines. Anymore in order to get magazines with a lot of recipes or projects you have to put out about $10.00 - $12.00. The regular holiday magazines do not have very many projects in them anymore so even tho the price is better you really are not getting the best bang for your buck. Those older magazines are chocked full of stuff so every year I pull them out & start going thru them, sure saves me a lot of money at the check-out stand. ALthough last season I did spend about $40.00 on those higher priced ones.....I got a great cookie recipe one & a couple with projects. For me to slap down that kind of money a magazine really has to have stuff in it I want or do not have.

I'm with ya Muf...was looking at one of the mags that I caved for last season, and I'm thinking....where is all the good stuff?
I mean, I like stocking stuffer ideas, but I need something to make!
I went to my local thrift store the other day, and asked them when they would put out their xmas stuff. After looking at me kind of weirdly, she says not until after halloween. Duh! But she did add that if I knew what I wanted, she might be able to find it. I told her my crafty side is a visual learner, and that wouldn't work. Bummer.

Mistress Muff and Mummy deer-est. That's one thing I can say about these three mags. They don't have much of any advertising in any of them. The one has 180 pages counting the front and back covers. It only has 17 adds and two of them make up both sides of the back cover. Mostly recipes and photos of '50's fashion' decorations displays. Like George Jetson on acid. LOL Picture a well branched tall and wide piece of driftwood. Now picture pink short haired mops at the end of each branch. Now add a pile of glass ornaments in the middle of each pink mop. WALA you have a fashionable 50's Christmas tree! Or how about gold colored flocking with red balls? Or spraying your green tree pink and purple and then covering it in pink flocking. Most of the craft ideas are made from stuff that might be hard to come by now. What is 'expandable foil' ? It's used a lot in all three mags. Lots of flocking, foil and gold spray paint. And everyone looks like they're covered in Vaseline. Hair and all. I didn't know people could look that shiny. LOL
Got the rest of the room painted. Kinda bummed that the color looks a bit purple. But I think I'll live with it. Looks a whole lot better than that day glow green the x wife painted it. Now to get the room back in order and then the kitchen. Feels good to get something done. Didn't hear from my computer guy. Hopefully tomorrow.

Dave , my computer guy, called me today after 6:00. Asked me a few more questions and then told me he'd have my new box done tonight. Told em "Dude, it's after 6:00, go home. I'll get it tomorrow." LOL Then we started talking about having trouble with suppliers. Probably on the phone for a good 20 minuets. LOL I didn't ask him today but may bring it up tomorrow about the virused computer I have. Hopefully he'll be able to retrieve most of the files from it for me. Don't think it has the goods to be upgraded to XP being it was a Window's 98 setup. It still has ALL my notes on botanical genetics. No, not a terrorist, amateur rose breeder. A bit under being an amateur chess player in the excitement level. LOL
Didn't get much done as far as Christmas crafts today. Did try Kilz primer on the frosted tree. Maybe a tad brighter than the Gesso. But I was able to get the same look. So now I can do the third tree and maybe a wreath and some multi branched ever green garland to match at a MUCH cheaper cost. I did some searching on the net for flocked or snow covered trees with multi colored lights. Didn't like the look of them either. So I'm not that dissappointed about the way these trees turned out. White lights look better for this look. I'll post all this in my frosted tree thread as well. Will update my first post by adding a note to reflect my findings. Don't need anyone else going threw all that expense just to find out they can do it cheaper. Finally got the table and chairs out of the living room too. LOL

LOL Your right.
Well got my new computer last night. Got lots to get used to. ( still using the old box right now to type to ya'll). Because of trouble with his supplier I ended up with Vista. And a upgrade pack that allows any program to operate in it's original window's environment. So far everything I've loaded works. Glad I'm off next week. Be a lot of re learning. Dave kept telling me "there's not much difference." I kept laughing and telling him everything is different. I had Windows 98!" LOL Off to work. no idea what time I'll be getting off tonight. Hopefully early enough to make it to the auction.

Purid, a new computer, that's great, are ya going to keep dial up yet? That is one thing i could ditch in a heart beat, but hubby doesn't seem to care. Hope you make it to the auction. Not much new here, working , etc. My garden is going good, must be all the rain and heat. Have lots of tomatoes, but none are red yet, have alot of cuc's and a couple small pumpkins, hope I get more of those, sick of spending the $ they want for them at the store or fruit stand. well, hope every one has a great weekend!

Sickie Ickie, Meditation and tap-dancing? LOL
Bethene, ya, still on dial up. But the new box seems to get things a lot faster. Pentium Dual with 2 gigs of memory, eight or nine USB ports,DVD/CD player and burner, floppy drive, 3 different memory card drives and haven't played with it all yet. The only thing I didn't get was the separate CD player. It has the slot for it so I'll get that when I really need it. Dave got fed up with his supplier. He's had the same one for almost 30 years now. He's got other clients still waiting for there boxes and a supplier that keeps re sending the wrong stuff. I talked to him a wile last night about it. He's pretty upset over the way this has turned out. I've known Dave sense high school, it takes a lot to get this guy's temper up. This means he's going to have to find a new computer parts and software supplier soon. He's worried because the folks he just dropped were real reputable and backed everything they sold. He's got his business and rep to keep intact. I'm hoping he can work this out with the folks he's been dealing with. Be a lot less stress for the guy to have.
I gota go. It's shower time and then off to the auction! I'm living up to my name at the moment. LOL

It's got some paint issues and it has 2 eye-hooks screwed into it's back. Guess they used that to keep em up in all the strong winds we get around here. If I have time this year I'd like to re-do this Santa.
So far my blowmold collection for the outside is
Stuff I had,
Snowman
Winny the Poo Santa
2 tall white candles
Stuff I've added
Big snowman
North pole
little mouse on chimny
2 red lamp posts
Big Santa.
Nope, the Poloron Santa and Deer are staying indoors. LOL

OK! Typing from the new setup to ya'll! It's a bit different but I'm slowly making it like home. Just added all 550+ links. Not a single porn site in any of it. The TOTALLY cool news is I'm able to access my free sites so I'll be able to update them. And make a few more. Decided to keep the big site account. Going to get better web editing software. The one I have is ok but it's a scaled down version. Not all the options work. It would build a good looking web site but I'd be stuck using browser friendly colors. Out of the 200 or so there's only 4 or 5 that look good. LOL
Be transferring all the photos to this computer soon. Then I'll be able to save space on this site's photo album.
Can anyone tell me how many watts a strand of C7 lights use? Trying to figure out how many blowmolds I can have in the front yard without crashing the breaker. Going to use energy saver bulbs in them.
Sickie Ickie
07-26-2008, 07:19 AM
Each C7 is about 7 watts. so multiply that by how many bulbs you have.
Totally cool to learn about your computer. how the heck I would get the dough for a new computer is beyond me. heh

Sickie, things got a little overloaded money wise at my house so the way we bought the new computer was at one of those rental places. It seemed urgent that we get the web site rolling so when Jerry paid off his new lawn mower last sept. he came home with a brand new pc from the rental place.
We were afraid to start the new web site on mine or Joe's pc cause they are just older ......mine is about 6 yrs old & between the pictures on it & what I have book marked its a wonder it runs at all. Joe's has been rebuilt ( we have a guy that rebuilds our pcs so they are most custom made) but his too has hords of photos & such from my halloween website & I won't even tell you how much I have book marked on both these units (its embarrassing!lol)
So we were afraid the units would not handle the incoming orders because of being slow & lack of room. The new pc is great its got Vista on it also. What I really love is how quiet it runs compared to my other computers. It also has that big screen which is great.
I think there was 12 or 13 payments on it & the payments are $132.00 a month. Its a "HP".
Jerry pays that as we both put money in the candy business. Bad thing is I got so sick for so many months we never opened the site because we were not sure I was gonna be able to handle everything we were doing. The site is about ready to go all we have left is to place an order for styrofoam coolers, cardborad boxes & ice pacs to be able to ship candy during the hot months.
We have to drive to Atlanta to pick these up. We decided to wait till fall to do this. Have to have that site open before xmas. Last year we had so many hits from before Thanksgiving thru Valentines but the site was not open. All our products have the web site addy on them so that drives people to the site much quicker than if we just had a shop & internet business. So our web site name is out there in all of our accounts.

Mummy wanted to let you know that as soon as I have time I'm gonna contact you for some help. The operations that I need to have are going to be done in Maryland. We have to make 2 trips up there for each operation. Nothing is in the works yet but what I need help with is finding a motel/hotel that is close to where the hospital is where they are doing these procedures.
As soon as I have time I will send you the address of the hospital & when you have time do you think you can tell me what places may be around there for us to stay in overnight? Also want to know if you know any good places to have the local specialties foodwise!

I'm not going to worry about money anymore. I'm going naked. JKLOL. the new box is part of another 10k in debt. If everything goes as planned anyway. One more project I'm working on that I'm keeping under wraps for now. I just lost 53k that I'll never recover. Just letten ya'll know cuz I'm not talking about that either. LOL Got cut $1.50 an hour at work and now things are really slowing down. All I'll do when talking about that is bi--h anyway so that's not worth talking about either. LOL I still have money to eat on and pay bills. Don't drink, smoke, go to the movies, party, do drugs, eat out, rent movies, and other than potato chips and soda I've got no snacks in the house. I cook all my meals for here and work. All I do is the auctions and maybe a yard sale or two. So why do I stay so fat? LOL

Putrid my Dear......worrying about money will give you lots of grey hair & no matter how many you pull out more will grow in!lol If you go naked please post a picture for us gals! Sometimes you have to lose money on your way to the destination. Just suck it in. I had $1000.00's lost in perfecting recipes especially when I was learning to temper chocolate by hand.......believe me chocolate can be a mean ole bit**! There is a lot of ways to get it wrong before you get it right. My Aunt remembers those 3AM phone calls before we put a phone in the house, hell we spent 18 hrs. a day at the diner so who needed a phone at home. So I ran across the street in my small town of 63, the phone people had a small building over there for the local phone guys with all their phone stuff in there & they offered the town a public phone booth there. I called her a few times when the chemistry came out right & the experiments worked on my darn caramel....thought I was never gonna get it right. I'd call her crying that I was so happy that I finally got the right solution!
Sorry about your pay cut thats rotten! Your lifestyle is a good way to live comfortably & & hang on to the money for the funner things in life like your auctions!I cannot answer you as to why you stay fat only because I have not found a solution to that dilemma either But my Dad always said about my Mom that every time her arm bends her mouth opens.........think if you broke your arm it would be easier?lol
Thank You for your concern, this health thing is ridiculous never realized how I took my good health for granted Sure hope they can fix me in Baltimore just cannot go yet, to much going on here. Gonna get up there as soon as I can tho.

Paid $10.00 each for both the white candles. Price tags are still on the bottom. That's $6 more than I paid for the tall snowman with the candy cane, North poll sign, Santa with list and two red lamp posts put together. I LOVE being cheap! LOL

The complete Nativity set is one I'd like to get myself. But wouldn't put it up outside cuz the kids around here take a liking to stealing the baby Jesus. I agree with your hubby. Keep it inside. If I had one that's what I'd do with it. Be in the front window. Be cool to make the smaller windows look like stained glass and have that in the big center window. Maybe I'll come across a set that's faded and get it cheep. Gota say THANKS to Carrie for her how-to.

Spent 3 hours today with Dave working on finding what I could do to use the older programs that I have. Most of them will take a bit of going around another direction to work but they will work just as I need them to. Came home early for the auction tonight. Didn't have anything I was interested in. In-laws give me a heavy box to go threw. Seems the x wife has been going threw all her boxes and has come across some of the stuff she packed that wasn't her's. Haven't gone threw it all yet but I do know I now have my un-opened box of 1950's snow. I'm happy. Let ya'll know if any more of the old Christmas stuff shows up.
I can't believe it's already Friday night. This vacation has gone by as all time goes I guess. All in all I enjoyed it. Really needed the rest. Looking forward to mowing the grass tomorrow and getting a few things done. As for tonight? There's a real comfortable chair calling my name. LOL

And still have to mow the grass and do some chores before the day is over. Plus I have a new data base program to learn. My biggest prob right now is getting used to this new computer. It's getting frustrating. I have to save in Publisher before I print. I forgot to save and have just lost a good hours work. Now that I've printed one page it wont let me back in because 'other programs are using' that page. I have to turn OFF the computer to get back in and continue my work. ????? I've had it with my new computer. It's going back. Yesterday my screen display went from 1280 by 1024 to 1280 by 600. Making everything long and thin until I got in and fixed it. Greetings to all my little Christmas Elves,
I shall return soon, we been down in Charlotte everyday working, leaving early in the morn & returning late in the eve. Aside from that kids, we went ahead & posted an entry over on the Halloween Forum that we are going to compete in the "Scary Scene" contest........huge mistake........cause between all this running aorund on the candy routes & trying to unpack halloween stuff to do this contest.........I am smack dab in the middle of canning!!lol
I'm also in trouble for this contest.......I was just gonna set up my spell & potion room, the one I had in the dining room for halloween last year but then like an idiot I went ahead & wrote a story for the competition to go along with the pictures of the scene I have to post & guess what......I don't have the props to match the story! What the heck was I thinking? Anyone have any spare legs or arms they can lend?!!!hahahahhaah
I had a game plan & thought I could fit in some things but realize now my stuff won't match so while I'm canning I'm struggling with that, how to pull this scene together. PLUS!!!!!Jer still has some props to build for our scene. He's having a yard sale this morning, Joe is painting tombstones & I'm making spaghetti sauce, cutting up cucmbers, getting ready to start plum jam & I still have 2 trays of orange caramels to dip!!Icks!!!
When yard sale ends all 3 of us will meet in the garage to work on the scene....I'm happy we tried to do this contest cause we got 1/2 of the garage cleaned......well jerry did most of it but I had boxes of crap to go thru too. We got the black paper up & started hanging spider webs but now there is mountains of halloween boxes to open & that does not include all the boxes in the house which contain items I need for the scene.
We are doing a live scene so Jerry, Joe , the neighbors little boy & his friend will all be in it. If we don't get done .....oh well. But I'm gonna try!! Will be back to catch up on reading here this next week......miss you guys. I'll post the link for the halloween scene as soon as I get everything in there. Oh yes & I been taking pictures & posting them in my halloween site......people had emailed me with questions about the preping of some of my dishes so I posted play by play pics.
As soon as things die down ........well thats a stupid thing to say cause September is when candy season kicks into gear again....but anyways I really want to make a xmas web site!
Love you guys

Totally cool Mistress Muffy. Candy and canning. Gona mix any of it to see what it'll be like? JK LOL Chocolate covered pickles! LOL
Wouldn't worry too much about your story and scene matching up all the way. I've looked at a few of the entries. Some of the stories are way better than the scenes. For arms and legs put all your effort into the hands and wrests and feet and ankles. Lay out a line of spray foam for the arms and legs. Cover the arms and legs with torn up material to resemble sleeves and pant legs. Blue jean material would be more realistic for the legs. Add a bit more foam to some of the ripped areas in the material. Spray the rips and ends with gloss red. You could even use a stick painted white coming out of the end for a bone. For add ins just do a few without hands and feet. Maybe even globs of 'meat' at the ends of stick bones.
Well I didn't come home empty handed this week. But I did get out bid on a few items. One I forgot about. LOL No pics yet. I spent $9.00. In a box for $1.00 I got a hand full of old glass beaded garlands. One with long red beads. It's broke so I'll have to restring it.
A hand full of old plastic disco balls. And 9 unsilvered WW2 glass balls with the original cardboard hangers in each!!!!!!! $5.00 on a Santa planter with spaghetti trim. $2.00 on a box of old plastic bells and with it came a old box of Shiny Brites. This lot also has 2 old glass shaped ornaments. And $1.00 for a 13 inch tall Empire plastics Santa. Also ended up with a bag of multi colored mini Christmas lights. Folks had bough a few boxes of stuff and these were in one of them. They didn't want them so they gave them to me. Totally cool. As they handed this large plastic bag of light to me I got a peek in the box. I MIST plastic reflectors! When looking threw things before the auctions started I didn't see them. A strand of old plastic reflectors!!!! Oh well, can't win them all. To add insult to injury they only paid $1.00 for both boxes. I didn't see what was in the other box. Really didn't want to. LOL

Putrid I really miss those auctions in Nebraska, they were just like that & you always came home with treasures. We have 2 auction houses here, one is every Wednesday at the flea market they also do livestock. I been to that one once. The other is an auction house just down the road from me, I have yet to get to that one.
Thank You Thank You Thank You for the good ideas on legs & arms and such. I got 2 cans of that spray foam stuff & mucho denim!! Monday night we will all get together and see what we can come up with to add to the scene. I hope I'll have time to get this all done......my big concern was more about getting the garage cleaned & ready for halloween but Jerry gets excited over the word "CONTEST" so ya know.....whatever tricks your trigger it sprung him into action cleaning that garage & I was more thrilled over that than anything!!lol

Glad to have helped Mistress Muffy. I know exactly how Jerry feels about the word contest. It's a guy thing. LOL And if you don't win you still have a clean garage.

OK now that I've got the camora and bigger monitor back at the old computer it's time to share some shots.
This pic is of the WW2 unsilvered ornaments with the original cardboard hangers. A plastic bell and to the left that isn't lima beens, that's part of a long old glass beaded garland. LOL

This is a shot of one of the shaped ornaments. I'm guessing a plum with leaves. The red and silver glass bead garland.

The third shot is of the 13 inch blow mold, Spaghetti trim Santa planter, a box of Shiny Brites. The pride of my 1950's collection! The box of un opened snow. This is one item I made sure I got back from my x.

I've come home with more for less. But I'm still happy.
