I have pine cones. I pick up more everyday. Got three Colorado pines in the back yard. Mostly small cones of about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches. And I still have a lot of the long white pine pine cones. Need ideas on what to do with all of these.
Things I've made, going to make and going to try.
Made
Pine cone tree.
Wired pine cones in evergreen garland.
Going to make
Those old Santa, snowmen and gnome figures. For pictures of what I mean go to Ebay - holiday and type in pine cones. Cool little critters. ( I'll find an auction on Ebay and post a link soon)
Going to try.
Wiring 3 pine cones together in an elongated offset pattern. Spraying a glob of great stuff foam insulation on the top of each. When it's workable spreading it out a bit and covering it with white glitter to look like snow. Frosting the pine cones with the same glitter and adding hot glue icicles. If it works it'll be cool. If it doesn't this is the last you'll hear of it. LOL
Other than the old fashioned spraying them gold and wiring them to your tree I can't think of anything else to do with them.
Any ideas?

What about a wreath made up entirely of pine cones? Left natural or frosted in some manner, maybe with just a spray of evergreen. I have also seen just using the "petals" pulled off them and used in mosaics or to roof a small house decoration.Maybe take a paper mache or wire/grapevine reindeer and cover it with the cones.Just a few things that popped into my head.

Ill be using these for decor around the bases of my potpourii lights I think
little trees for village or train settings
bird food holders--suet and seed
paint to look like stone to add to tombstones
fish,snake,dragon scales

Thanks folks, Nephew Fred, a wreath would be do-able. With enough pine cones even one of those wire deers after the lights fail. Hadn't thought of pulling them apart and just using the pedals.
Xmaslilly, the suet and seed idea would be cool to do for an out side Christmas tree. Decorating a small evergreen or something sturdy enough for birds to land on with these. Perhaps using colored ribbon to tie them on. Snake? Now there's something that would be a cool project. A big snake in the Christmas tree. Better than finding a pickle!
Something my in-laws have that they made years ago is a pine cone tree you hang on a wall. They glued pine cones and sprigs of fake evergreen to an elongated triangle out of cardboard. Probably only 2 ft tall.
Thanks again folks. Keep the ideas coming! If I run out of cones I got friends with pine trees who'd be more than happy to have me clean up under.

Putrid, I make ornaments out of pine cones, I use the big, fatter ones amd make depending on the like a little birds nest with flowers, i made one on a big (12 inch) sugar pine cones once too, but I have made alot of the smaller ornament ones,
Take one big 3-4 inch or bigger, large diameter, also 3-4 inch pine cone
a small bird, from Michaels or hobby lobby, etc,
small amount of spanish moss.
flowers, greens, small eggs, etc, to match bird
small amount of a thin ribbon.
on top of the pine cone hot glue a bit of the spanish moss
figure out how you want the "nest" to look, glue flowers, greens, maybe eggs sometimes I use them some times not, then glue the bird.
cut the ribbon as long as you want , of the right length to hang from tree, and also make two small bows, glue the ribbon then the bows to the cone, and voila, a ornament!
I have made several of these for gifts, and at a craft sale i was at, and they went over well. I have used many colors of birds and flowers, but I particularly like cardinels with very small red and white poinsetta, with some bits of every green, and a red x-mas print ribbon.

It's been a while since any new projects were added there.

Pinecones add great color to a campfire...

Cool idea Bethene.
Spookineer, don't have a fire place so an indoor campfire is kinda out of the question. LOL
Sickie Ickie, I swing by your site every so often. Yours may not be the largest collection yet but at least it has good content. Not 300 different links for 300 different coloring pages. LOL

Putrid a few of years ago I hot glue gunned pine cones on a large shoebox completly except for the lid, added yellow red and orange tissue paper in the box sticking out and added different kinds of those long stemmed tinsles, leaves, and flowers in the center and used it as a center piece for my table at Thanks Giving. I received tons of compliments for it and had quite of few request to make them for family and friends. that year I was up to my elbows in pine cones. sorry I don't have any pics. This was before digital cameras were invented. Sickie if I make it again I'll be sure to submit pics for Santas projects.

Sickie, I have a couple of ornaments that i will try to get to, and post pics, (one of these days) the pine cone one, and a ribbon pine cone ornament.

Hey Sickie is One of your websites Hauntprojects.com ?

LOL, nope. But you've seen the resemblance it sound like. The same person who did hauntproject.com helped create the program for me for SantasProjects.com. I liked much of how he designed his site, so with some begging and pleading, he let me use his approach. He's a good guy. :D

I gotta call my neighbor across the road......everytime I drive past her place and see all those pinecones on the ground it makes me crazy. I left 20 full cases of pinecones when I moved from Nebraska...it just killed me. Now since in this new house when I make all the fresh garlands at Xmas I need pinecones to adorn them and have none!! I use pine cones throughout my house to decorate and yes I even throw them in the fireplace!
I better give her a call and go over there with my shopping bags!!
Thanks for the reminder!
