Well, some things have changed for the better...like the star topper from the 30's? Found it on Ebay right now.

It is rather ugly, but cool in a strange sort of way also, it should be silver, or gold instead of dark, (unless it used to be).and different bulbs instead of blue, maybe. The amazing thing to me is that the box is with it looking like new.I usually don't save boxes for a year let alone 78!!

Bet it'll go hight! Seems the uglier it is the more it's worth. LOL

I kinda like it -- It would be cool to have a retro tree with ornaments that might be ugly, but cool in their own way.

Yeah, the cool ugly tree. :p

I like it and just think it could be used dual purpose star at xmas or a 5 skull light

LOL Xmaslilly, would make a cool Halloween prop. Even for a science lab scene.Personally I'd be real careful using it. Wouldn't trust that old wiring out in the weather.

Think it's meant for indoors. :)

Yep, that's an indoor decoration. I think the only out door stuff were blow molds ( plastic lighted figures ) and strands of lights. All your lights on the tree were c6's c7's or c9's so that star would of blended right in. And the very top light probably left a permanent mark on your ceiling. LOL

That would be where the wise men followed the comet. :p

LOL at least you would know where to put the tree each year. The star has to line up with the dark spot on the ceiling and the stand lines up with the nail holes that hold the stand in place.
Surprisingly even with only one day and a few hours left the high bid is still at $16.51.

you gonna bid on it, Putrid? :)

No, I'm still reeling from all the money I spent on Christmas and at after Christmas sales. Kinda buried under the snow at the moment. LOL How about you Sickie Ickie, going to bid?

If you think about the popular designs from that era it fits right in. Scandinavian modern with clean sleek lines and minimal embellishments. Kinda the George Jetsen look. There's some really cool plastic reflector stars. I think made by Paramount. Where the lights are hidden and all you see is there glow on the edges of the plastic. Like those old clip on haloes for electric candles by Noma. They had some interesting and I agree, even ugly ideas on stuff for the tree. But no uglier than the silver chandelier like things and stick looking stars Wal Marts had this year. And the "angels" with the sticks and twigs for wings. And how about all those material covered cones. And the cones covered with Birch bark. Kinda leaves me scratching my head thinking ....What?. LOL No body will use them. They'll get stored away and folks 50 years form now with look at them, scratch there heads and say....What?

Told ya it'd go high. Winning bid was $41.01. Way to rich for my wallet. I wouldn't want the dark spots on the ceiling anyway. LOL
Went back and checked the Ebay auction after I made my last post. It's good to know there's that much interest in old Christmas stuff. As long as I'm not bidding on it anyway. LOL. Can't tell ya how many times I've been out bid within the first few days.

I liked those birch bark things, putrid!! lol They had little polar bears and moose at my world market, along with the trees. I thought they were cute, but couldn't think where to put them...and I don't live in a log house, so they might not go too well with my other styles!

LOL it's the old saying Mummy deer-est, variety is the spice of life. I'm sure there's plenty of folks out there that didn't look at Wal Mart's angels as women with medieval torture devices on there backs like I did. And plenty of folks who are proud owners of all that shaved Birch bark stuff as well. It's just the majority of the stuff left over for the 75% off sales. Some folks will buy it on impulse and never use it. Store it for years and it'll get handed down or sold. Just like that tree top star. And then folks in the future who'd never seen it before will look at it and think....What? LOL

As long as they don't make that grinding plastic sound. Like the robotic tree top Angels they came out with a few years ago. Nice looking but all you heard was,
au au auuuuuuckkkk k k kkkkkkkkkkkauauauuu uh.
over and over again. Kinda like the sound of a medieval torture device without the look. LOL

I think it's a cool piece. I would use it on my tree. :) I am not a fan of angels, so it's right up my alley. Good find!

AngelEye, you should check Ebay. There's a few up for bid now that don't have the original box so they should go a lot cheaper.

Actually I did check eBay after the original post, there was an awesome vintage snowman tree-topper. But I am still jobless after getting laid off in November, so I had no money.
BUT! The second I get a job, I will be surfing the web for cool vintage Christmas stuff. My Grandmother gave me some antique ornaments so now I am hooked. :)

Angel Eye, I agree, I love antique ornaments, I have some that were my mon's, they are about 60- 65 years old some of them, very fragile, I use a couple on my tree that are about 50 yrs. old or so, I love having that connection, rmembering them on the tree when I was growning up. I should check put e-bay some time for other vintage things. I know what you mean about $ though, it is hard to have money for extas like that.

Speaking from experience Ebay is to easy to get hooked on. And some folks bid anything just to win. This is a true story. I was needing a new hi-hat stand and was looking at a used DW5000. At the last minuet I was out bid. Did some searching and found a 'Buy it Now' for a BRAND NEW one in the box with a warranty. I got it for $2.00 more than my final bid on the used one. Just have to be patient on Ebay.
