Greetings All,

The question to start out with this week is........

"Do You Have All Your Christmas Stuff Put Away Yet?"

My answer is No! No! No! not at all.......outside is done but inside is not...I have to start Valentine orders tomorrow so today is my last day to clean up my house!
So........ I"M OFF!!!!!

the Merry Muffster

p.s. got my Cpap machine yesterday....it feels like I'm in that movie "Alien" w/ Sigorney Weaver. This thing just covers your face! Just like when the alien babies came out of their pods and just went straight for your face and covered it! Honestly...there is no room for the word "romance" in this!

I left the "winter" decorations out that were a part of my Christmas decorations. I already added my Ground Hog and Valentine's decorations last weekend and some my Halloween decorations never get put away!!

No....I Keep saying I'm going to do it, then life gets in the way. But I am going to ....I promise...really soon, Mom...don't get mad!

I just finished packing the last of them today. Except for the little tree on the counter in the guest bath that stays out all year. We collect ornaments from where ever we travel all year, need someplace to hang them!

I usually try to have them all packed away the weekend after new yrs. Only thing left is one 5 ft santa standing at the top of my stairs. I have to figure out where I'm going to store him. He might be still standing there come march :p

Sickie Ickie

Muffy, did you get snow? Talked to my agent in Greensboro this AM who told me they got 1 1/2 ". I asked him to drive out to our place and take a pic! It will be gone I'm sure by the time we get there next week.

Hope you (and baby) are doing well...

We got snow today!!! Yay! A few inches...but now it's raining, so it is yucky. But I did get to play in the snow for a little while, so it was good.

Well, you would think the silly schools would open late to give everyone time to clean their sidewalks, etc....for that matter they should have closed early yesterday....but they are dumb and didn't. I salted my walk, but it was still soooo icy -- I held my breath this morning b/c I have at least two dozen people walking on my drive to get to the bus stop. Thankfully, no one fell. Stupid administrators.

I left some snow men out on a shelf, and a snowman welcome on the front door. Otherwise, most of it is away, some of it is sitting in the basement waiting to have a home, not sure where to put it, should organize the closet area where most of it is, just shoved in haphazardly. But haven't much felt like it. So there it sits. oh well, be there tomorrow too.

Sickie Ickie

Mummy deer-est
01-19-2008, 09:06 PM
Well the fire that was under me to get this stuff away was put out! We were going to have guests, but they didn't want to brave the snow....so I left the mess. At least now all of it is off the walls, etc and now it is all in the livingroom. It is a big ole mess, but now I can organize and use some of putrids suggestions to put it away nicely. Hopefully I'll do it this week, b/c I put it in a place where visitors would see it first thing, so I want it out of there.

spookineer
01-20-2008, 09:15 AM
Isn't it funny how we think our house is clean enough, until guests are on their way?

Sickie Ickie
01-20-2008, 12:23 PM
I always know my house is a mess....guests or not. LOL

bethene
01-20-2008, 02:02 PM
Yeah, spookineer, it is funny, but every one does it, mine is usually always a mess, Sickie, just sometimes a small mess, some times a big mess. Of course, I don't even want to think about the basement!

This "global warming" that some people keep talking about! Where exactly is that going on? I want to go there.

Mummy deer-est
01-22-2008, 10:32 AM
Well, I managed to get most of it packed up last night while the hubby gave the girls a bath. I still have to get the wreaths and garland put away, and the boxes/bags in the storage room, but it is much much much better. Which is a good thing, b/c my eldest is.....you guessed it.....sick. Again. And it just started as the sniffles and here she is, sleeping next to me with her mask on, getting a neb treatment. I'm so worried -- if you are familiar with resparatory issues, you might know that it is really bad when your skin sucks in between your ribs and you are using your tummy or neck muscles to help you breath. Here she is with her stomach going up and down two times a second. It is not good, and I'm worried we'll be going to the emergency room tonight. Well, if I'm scarce in the next few days, you'll know why.

Sorry, also, to always be talking about this. Just a worried mom.

01-23-2008, 03:00 AM
mummy- hope your little one is feeling better- how scarey as a mom to have to see her struggle to breath- and don't apologize for talking about it- that's what friends are for!!! We got 8 inches of snow yesterday, and looks like about 2-3 more or so last night. And itis so cold, Brrr. well, off to woek, have to brave the weather, go brush my car off, - because there is so much of hubby's stuff in the garage, no where to park, if it was because of my halloween stuff I probably wouldn't grumble about it!!

Sickie Ickie
01-23-2008, 08:06 AM
I know...we have no garage. :(

Mummy deer-est
01-23-2008, 03:13 PM
Well, it was touch and go last night -- I can't tell you how many times we said, "do you think we should go to the ER now?" but she would always seem to get a tiny bit better at that point. Then back. It was a rough night, but now she is much better, thanks to the steriods. Now we just are crossing our fingers that there are no infections, and start the everyday steriods. Yay for being moody and short. *grumble*

When it comes to our kids, they're much of our lives. Sucks to feel protective and have that feeling there's nothing you can do.

Reminds me when my baby was smaller and woke up screaming in pain. My wife was holding him and I was in tears cause I didn't know what to do. I called a doctor's office and the receptionist/nurse answers the phone. I explain my situation about my baby and she says in kind of a mean way, "Does he have a temperature?" Well, my son always was warmer in certain times of the day, so I said I wasn't sure. Then she says to me very snotty, "Well, he IS your BABY, RIGHT?" I could have lept through the phone and strangled her!!!!! I was nice and got off quickly, but ya know- to this day it still bothers me and I should have let her have it verbally!

BTW We never did figure out what it was. We're guessing a sore throat, but it went away in a day.

ShellBell
01-24-2008, 09:19 AM
I would have prob drove over there and kicked her where the sun don't shine..and talked to her superviser. That's kind of the way the hospital staff up here is. I still can't figure out why we even have a hospital in this town. Seems like 9 out of 10 times you go there for something and they send you up to lacrosse (they are part of mayo clinic). They did that 2x to me so now i don't doctor in this town at all. I would rather drive 30 miles out of my way then to see any of these quacks here.

Mummy deer-est
01-24-2008, 01:12 PM
I know what that feels like -- had a similar nurse at the pediatricians. Always seemed to not want to bother with us, or any one else. She would blame me when the baby cried. Ugh, I hated her. I think these people don't know what it feels like until they have kids themselves. But I guess they can have bad days too -- just not when I am at my most vunerable! heh.

bethene
01-25-2008, 05:14 AM
Mummy- hope your little one is doing better!! It also really bothers me when people in "people" busineses are rude. Every one can have a bad day, but you put your work face on and deal with it. I used to work in retail, and even though I had alot of really stressful, bad things going on in my life, you didn't treat people bad, even if they were rude themselves I just put my "game" face on and helped them., as far as nurses, why become one if you don't want to deal with people in the worst of situations, sickness, and worry never brings out the best in anyone, but you know that before going into it. I don't know, I guess rude, obnoxious people bug me.

Mistress Muffy
01-25-2008, 08:40 AM
Just read this page & want to say I agree with all of you!! My hubby was in surgery for 17 yrs. but he always talks about his ex-wife & how not understanding she was to patients. When she came on board Joe trained her. He said she was really cold w/ patients and has commented that why would a person want to be a nurse & act like that. She has a bachelors in nursing & is now the head of the nursing dept..

Now here is the funny part of this...as much as my hubby has complained about how she acted, when I get real sick he is just impossible! I tease him all the time about his lack in nursing skills and really its been a pain for me when I get sick cause he won't even get me a cup of tea. I reminded him of how much I took care of him after his operation.

So I wonder too why they become nurses & act like that.

Wanted to say hi to everyone here. Been busy getting Valentine candy to the stores & its been a rough time, Doc changed some of my meds & I always hate that waiting to see how you react to the new stuff. Still getting use to that alien mask on my face!lol

What a crappy time of year. Everyone is sick, kids are sick, it's just too darned cold! We are at our house in NC for 2 weeks trying to get some things done and were not ready for this cold weather! I know it's much colder for you folks up north but that's normal for you. Coming from the other coast, it's cold!
Hope you all are back in the pink soon, and come on early spring!

Were going to leave after Easter services at church. And, I mean, straight from the church to the auto train! Were going to stay for 5 days, then go to the beach for a few more days, then drive back home. Wish I could bring all of you, but I'm already going to be handing over a few limbs just for us!
We did do the "surprise, your on vacation" thing for them when we went to Hershey park over the summer. It was so cool...we have a pic with my daughter just so excited! But we can't do that this time b/c we want to prep them. And there is no way I could keep that secret for so long!

Hi all, I'm still alive. have'nt been on the thread lately my computer has a bug, and my daughter took it apart to fix it at school in her computer maintanance class. its been three weeks, and although we want to encourage her, hubby and I think we'll end up having to buy a new one soon.(ugh.... there goes vacation money) spent all of Janurary and the first week of Feb at the doctors with my two year old with an ear infection that just would'nt go away and pnemonia on top of it, the snow hasn't let up here in chicago. thought I was going to kill myself on one of those pesky pot holes that have been popping all over the city. I feel like prisoner in my own house because the weather has been too bad to go out not to mention the kids being sick, and the one opportunity that I did go out I went to the mall only to be confronted by bathing suits. I was not ready for that!!!! you might have seen me on the news as the psycho woman that was dragged out of the mall by security yelling "I NEED A PINT OF ICECREAM!!"..... that always makes me feel better.
Anyhow, I've missed you guys. hope everyone starts feeling better soon, and for those of you going on vacation please bring back a little bit of sunshine over this way.

Of course, another winter storm coming made it depressing for more than one reason, Hope your kids are feeling better. I had a ball joint(what ever that is) break on my car, thank God I was pulling into the parking lot at woek rather than flying down the high way!! Yeah, it is cold here too, first we were supposed to get 2-5 more inches of snow, now they said it is falling apart, so just a dusting, but Tuesday night -more-Yesterday was very bad. there were like 3- / 40 - 50 car pile ups in the area, - every expressway around here had at least one, jack knifed semi's, and hundreds , literally, of other slide offs and roll overs. LMAO Spookineer. Been kinda wondering about Sickie Ickie. Hope his absence is do to being busy and not his step son's health. Be cool to hear from em just to know. Got my face buried in the web site. GOT to get that thing up. Been paying for the space for 3 months now. Kinda like paying for cable. It's there even when I don't turn the TV on for days. LOL Already looking for a different host for the site. Not that there's anything wrong with Earthlink. However the price and space I have is easily beaten by other places. One I'm looking at will offers 99% up time and backs the site up for a LOT less than 30$ a month. At this point I think I should get the thing up so ya'll can see it before I think about moving. LOL

Gota go to bed. The sun's up and it's already past noon.

Hey guys. Trying to get back here again. My stepson was rushed to the hospital again. He's going through radiation therapy daily and when going downtown on th train with his stepmom, he passed out. The ambulance met him at the station and transported them to one hospital and then to the one that is familiar with him. The closest thing they figure is that he didn't have enough fluid the previous eve and that caused his blood ressure to drop the next day, as well as needing to balance out the hormones more. They also found a possible abnormality with his heart. He now has a cardio appt next week.

My 3 yr old son hogs the computer mostly now. LOL I'm trying to get back to normalcy here.

That's what they say. I was going to take the dialysis class, but it sounded more and more shady the more I investigated it. So, for now, I'm auditioning for a stage show that has the possibility of running for a year. Hopefully it will pan out and I can say good bye to my icky job for a while.

We get flurries now and then. Should warm up a bit by the weekend. This time last year I was watching early spring plants popping up. I think by the start of March we had daffodils in bloom. Way to early. Everything started leafing out way too soon. We got hit by a bad cold spell and it shredded everything. Even summer blooming bushes hardly bloomed. Burned most plants. Had a yard full of half dead looking things. Took most of the summer for things to recuperate. Hopefully this year it'll stay cold till it's supposed to warm up.

Sickie Ickie, totally cool dude. Hope you get the part.

Well speaking of work, LOL I'd just like to start out by saying that no one got hurt. We had a industry wide "Time out for Safety Day" Monday. Talked about the out side group that's coming in to help find and fix all the safety issues. Going to have group meeting 8 hours a day, 2 days a week with a group of employees for the rest of the year. Seems kinda ironic that we had that meeting Monday and on Tuesday we had a 5 ton crane holding 3 tons of glass come crashing to the floor. The crane was only at best 3 years old. It's remote operated so the guy unloading the glass didn't have to hand guide it like they had to with the old crane. Got rid of the old one because you had to hand guide it. Knocked a guy off the back of a truck. It took over a year of physical therapy to get him up and OK again. Guess we're off to a good start with finding all the safety hazards.

02-29-2008, 07:08 AM
Ohwow, Putrid, that's amazing no one got hurt, with the falling glass, maybe you better not have any more meetings!LOL! In town here the other day, they had a gas explosion. In a building that housed several businesses, some one smelled gas, asked the other business if they smelled it, everyone did, so they called the gas company, when the gas Co. guy, came out, went to the basement of the building, opened the basement door, said, yes, I am getting a reading, just then, boom, the place blew- it totally collapesed, Thank God, that amazingly, no one was seriously hurt, they had to dig people out, as well as manage the fire. The gas Co. guy says he doesn't remember any of it. People in a coffee house across the street said they heard the boom, looked up and saw the other building come straight at them, it blew across the street. The pics look like a war zone.

Totally cool no one got badly hurt. Got news about what happened in our first 16 hours of safety meetings. Comities. Comities with sub comities. And possibly more comities. Talking about getting more people involved from "outside the comities". Can't get to many more. Only about 120 of us in the factory. Guess they'll grab a few passing cars on the way. LOL And about the crane crashing to the floor? It got a few second mentioning. They called it a near miss and no body got hurt. That sums it up. They'll comity themselves out of being able to do anything so nothing'll get done. Same o'l BS.

I hear ya Putrid. Where I work used to have a a guy that consulted on ways to improve the company, better ways to do thinks , etc. He would make suggestions and the guys in charge basically just made fun of him behind his back. The guy said that the emplyees that do the job are the ones to listen to for ideas and improvements, but they didn't want to hear that, so eventually got rid of the guy. That guy really wanted to make things better, and the company was going thru the motions just ot look good on paper. Man, it's Pretty dead around here, huh?

It's the 'give a guy some power, he thinks he becomes a god' problem. There's a reason our American management system is failing drastically. Once someone is put in that position they are lead to believe everything that comes out of there mouth is the truth. Therefor it's impossible for them to make a mistake. Your not a team player if you point that out. Case in point. We have a closed filtration system to clean the water. Meaning it doesnt physically connect to a drain. Management decided that three machines needed cleaner water so they were connected to the water pipes. Thus over filling the system on a daily basis. We were at fault because we couldn't keep the water off the floor. Because it was a good idea. In an unrelated incident where folks were getting falsely blamed for something I told one member of management ( leaving out all the colorful language I used) to get a piece of paper and a box of crayons and draw it out. I'm not a team player, but no one's getting blamed for it anymore.

Ya, kinda slow. But not quite dead. We're still here! And I'm full of life, or something anyway. LOL

One of the owners of where I work always walks in a room, and says something in a loud voice, just so all eyes are on him, wants to be the center of attention. His brother just says very stupid things, no social skill any of them, Good thing they inherited the business, they couldn't of sone it other wise. On the topic of the emplyee always being wrong, we get that too. If some thing isn't working right, it must be one of us doing something wrong, not something wrong with the machine, even though we do it the same way day in and day out, once one of the forman had to start up "the filling machine", a machine that fills many cream curls at the same time, a few of us saw him pushing buttons on th computer that runs it, knew he wasn't doing it right, so when the machine doesn't work right, and they can't get it right they get all the big wigs out there, and the idiot that has a big mouth, blamed us, said we weren't putting curls on straight, when we do it the same way every day, it just had to be us! moron!
Have a great day!

I hope I can be in management again some day so my world would be a better place. JK LOL If I ever got into that position again it would have to be a business I started. Couldn't be where I am now. I'm not a people person. I'm not a teem player. I have an attitude. I have to many write ups. I need to find better ways of expressing myself. ( other than colorful language ) I'm to independent. Seams I work better by myself. I have a hard time working with other people. and the list goes on and on and LOL

I wonder if folks learn to be that way in management training? LOL If I ever win a lotery I'm going to make a study to find the exact point a normal intelligent person looses it in management. What it takes to or what has to happen for a normal person to start thinking they have all the right answers and can answer truthfully for everyone else. It's like looking at a forest and only seeing leaves.

I guess I was fortunate in my career to have had mostly decent supervisors. Sure, I had a couple that had been promoted to their highest level of incompetence, and a couple that were just plain a**holes, but most were good people. One of my first supervisors was a guy who, when you didn't do something quite the way he liked it, would take you aside and simply say " how about you try it this way?" He would never "instruct" you in front of co-workers. When I got to supervisory and management levels, I remembered how much that method earned my respect and always tried to treat employees with that same respect. Another thing the same guy taught me was to listen to input and feedback from people who perform the tasks. So my theory was, "If you have a better way to do it, let's hear it." and "If you don't have a solution, you don't have a problem." It encouraged inventive participation in the way things were done and a feeling of vestment in the team. Hopefully I passed that on when I retired, or they've come up with even better ways to "get 'er done"!

Spook, sounds like you worked for a god company, and then were a good superviser your self. My immediate supervisor is good guy, similar to the guy you were talking about, he listens and cares. My old boss was a jerk, he still works there , and doesn't like me watches every thing I do. And I never did anything to him, honestly. I like to have fun with my friends, and laugh and talk wtih them alot, get my work done, but I don't know why he doesn't like me. The owners of the company are the ones I was talking about earlier, inherited it, born never having to worry about a job, daddy gave them theirs. And it show, they are very selfish people. And , they are also very cheap and tight fisted. I stay for the good friends I have their.

Oh, My God!! You people need to watch Office Space!! If you have already, then go re-watch it. It is freakin' hillarious. All about corporate america and the absurdity of "management" and living life in a cubicle. It is geared more towards the younger set, but still, it is so funny. We quote it all the time.
I used to work for a former congresswoman. She was a bulldog. And mean. I learned a lot from her -- but mostly, not in a good way. Like, "how to treat people with respect," and "what to do to show your employee's that they are doing a good job." It's sad that there are so many people who just don't understand the concept of the golden rule, especially those with power.
Eh, my thoughts of Disney will keep me from going back to those times! 3 weeks!

I've had my share of good managers as well. But they've been the exception, not the rule. Had one guy that told me it was my responsibility to set up the work place. He came back almost two hours later and B... me out because I didn't set it up the way he wanted it. I had set it up the very same way for months. Then one day he b.. me out for setting it up the very same way. When I confronted him all he told me was "things change". The guy I'm putting up with now straight face lies to you. I spent a good half an hour getting within inches of his face to correct him every time he lied. That make's me "NOT' a teem player. LOL

Never seen Office Space. Will have to check it out. I remember watching American Body Shop on Comedy Central. Reminded me allot of our maintenance department.

And going back to the weather....it was 76 here Sunday. 35 yesterday and now it's 25 and snowing again. Not going to warm back up for 5 or 6 days. Hopefully it wont get that warm again. 76 is just hot this time of year. Sweat like a pig all night at work.

More of an agent story than a producer. I know a guy who's band signed with this agency so they'd be able to play larger concerts. Open for the big boys. The kick was that if they got gigs on there own they still had to pay the agency. Never got a gig threw them but paid out the back side for everyone they got on there own. Band ended up breaking up.

Just a Misfit, Sickie Ickie has hit it on the head. In a mag. they go for composition and balence of the photo. Not reality. If it takes moving things around to get a good shot that's what they do. If they can't move enough around for a good shot they use amber lenses to make the room look better. Hides everything, that in reallity, is bland and boring. Amber also hides damage, dust and stains. If you see shots in amber it's the mag telling ya 'nothing we could do would make this crap look good". LOL Your house and decorations would look just as good in any mag. By bet better, they wouldn't have to use all that amber to hide the bad stuff.

When I go looking for stuff on Ebay and I come across an auction that's used amber lenses I ignore it. It's like they're telling you straight up the stuff is crap. Because our eyes filter out most of the yellow you wont be able to see all the details. Worn, fading, scratches, stains, surface imperfections and small damage disappear. If they were honest sellers they'd use white light so you can see what your bidding on. And even if they're honest sellers you'd still want to see what your bidding on. I've bought lots of things over the years from Ebay. Including one without a picture at all. Lots of honest folks on Ebay.

Went to the auction Friday night and came home with a few things. The only Christmas items are 7 single electric candles and 4 three stick electric candelabras. Plus I stand of 100 mini white lights. Haven't plugged them in yet but they look new. Got it all with a blow mold light up Jack-o-lantern, a ceramic Jack-o-lantern, an old Jack-o-lantern candle and 3 indoor extension cords. All on one box for $1.00. The big buy was 14 hardcover books for $2.00. From the "Spirit of Christmas" series of crafts books I have 1-6, 8, 10, 13 and 15. Also got "Christmas Keepsakes" and "Holidays Remembered" crafts books. The other two are on interior decorating. Learning a few new tricks. I never new to use Gesso over paper mache to get a better finish. Also never thought of using Gesso on poly fiber fill. They have it on paper mache and other Santas. Makes a mossy very textured look. Wonder if it would work on topiary? Inplace of moss. Will have to experiment. Most of the crafts are over the top sudo country look. Some are real folk art. And some are to expensive for most folks to do. I like the look of there "spice balls". Styrofoam balls covered with real spice. But the idea of using $8.00+ worth of spice to make one ornament is a bit out of my wallet range. And to cover a tree with them? LOL Only bought one bad item. Had won a de-humidifier over last summer. Paid 50 cents for it. Ran for almost 6 months. Died on me last month. Got one last night for $3.00. Makes a lot of noise but doesn't work. I'll just wait for the next one. LOL Also won 13 C clamps for $9.00. and a few other items. All in all I spent $20.00. An expensive night by my standards. LOL

Sounds like you had a good time and got good deals, the books would be interesting to read. So you have a Big Lots by you? You can get spice there for the spice ball really reasonable. Also alot of times dollar stores have them, you should check it out! Too bad about your de-humifier not working!!
A week ago I went to a clearance thrift sote by my house that has all threir clothes for 99 cents. I cleaned up. Got blazers , 3 one black and 2 dark charcoal greay, the black one will be for a vampire, it is alittle longer, and more tapered, the grey ones I am going to use for the frankensein monster, not sure which one I will use yet. but they were only 99 cents each! I got 3 long dresses 2 black and one dark purple. The dresses can always be ised for witches, the dark purple I orgionally got to use for a victim of the vampire, but don't know if it is too dark. I also got a lab coat, for 79 cents, for Dr. Frankensein him self. So I have pretty much all my prop clothes for next to nothing, and didn't have to sew it, Yipee!! Oh yeah, I also got dress pants to go with the blazers.

I always wanted to grow pumpkins, bethene, but from what I understand, they are like weeds? How much space do you have to grow them? Now that I'm out of the townhouse, I might have the ability to attempt it this year!

bethene
03-17-2008, 02:10 PM
Mummy, for the most part, you need quite a bit of space for pumpkins, last year I tried some that were supposed to have a little bit bushier plant instead of viney, it did ok, but only got a few pumpkins. This year I tried a heirloom variety called Conneticut Field pumpkin, it will take up more room, I am moving them this year, so hopefully will have more room and they will do better. If space is limited, check out the smaller vined ones, check on line at the Burpee, Park, Henry Fields, web sites, looks up pumpkins and read what they say, and base the decision on that. I have never had a great crop, but every year, they get a little bit better, so am ever hopeful!

Sickie, the package says 120 days, which is the longest date so far on any I have tried. I will have to fugure out exactly where that takes me in terms of when i want them. I may have to start them indoors. I go to my first halloween camping week end the tenth of October, the second one is the 25th, I would like to have a few for each, then of course the "big" day. The ones from the 25th might still be good, I guess, for halloween, if they start to shrivel, you can soak them in water, them coat the edges with vaseline. If they mold, there is not much you can do. It is actually almost time to make reservations for the halloween camping week ends, 6 months in advance is April. And seeing as I want certain sites, to wet up my stuff the way I want it, I will have to try to reserve the first day you are allowed. I actually am getting excited about it, I LOVE, LOVE,LOVE it!! Sorry, I know this is a Christmas site, but I can't help it, I get so carried away!

Bethene try a little orange or lemon oil mixed with water in a spray bottle to make an air spray or peelings set in a bowl of warm water. That might help to pep you up.

Rain again. We had snow on Easter. It rained earlier that week. Now it's raining again. Mix good o'll Missouri clay and rain and you get water puddles on hill sides. Where I lived before buying this house had 'plastic' clay. Nice way of saying 'dead earth'. The clay was so bad you could dig a deep hole, fill it with water and wait up to 3 weeks for it to evaporate back out. Didn't need to poor concrete for a swimming pool. Just dig a big enough hole and fill it with water. LOL Even on a hill side. Did learn something about clay when I lived there. Dead earth or plastic clay is caused by the natural salts in dead things saturating a thin layer of top soil. In time the salt builds up and kills off the micro organisms that break down plants and animals. Thus more salt buildup. More dead micro organisms and after time, dead earth clay. No little critters in the soil means no microheshia to support plant life. By the way, that's where I learned to garden. And learned big words like 'symbiotic microheshia' and 'chromosome ploidy'. I really got into gardening. Like I got into small engine repair when I took that class in high school. Totally fascinated by the physics behind air and fuel mixtures. As far as fixing it? I could point to the spark plug. LOL I had to come to terms with the fact that I'm a geek. Geeks and tools don't mix. Guess I'm rambling. Rambling and rain goes good together. Think I'll turn on some Jazz and watch it rain.

Cool Sickie Ickie. Have ya'll thought of a sponsor?

Bethene, have you tried running around your house butt necked and screaming? Always cheers me up. And gives the neighbors something to talk about too. LOL

Thats a good idea to have a sponsor for your event Sickie. Also have you ever tried to have an event to raise money such as bingo for the arts, you'd be surprised how much money you can raise at those places.

I think that echoed right off my head! LOL Always check in but don't always post. Weekend started out OK. Was to help a friend move but got side lined. Food allergies suck. Had to cut it short and go home. Totally cool he had more help there than needed so at least he got moved in. Spent the rest of the day sweating it out. I feel like I'm wearing someone else's crisco. LOL But I am doing better. I'll just grab the engine de-greaser out of the garage and take a shower. I'll smell better too. Not so much like forum name. LOL
It took years to figure out what I'm allergic to. Because of my crazy metabolisme it might hit me within the hour to almost 2 days after. And to make it worst it's not one of the usual suspects. It's pork. Makes it hard to go out to eat. Not only can I not eat the stuff but if anything is prepared in the same place I get hit as well. That's what happened to me this weekend. I had chicken in a Chinese restaurant that cooks a lot of pork dishes as well. But the food was good! I've eaten there many times over the years without getting sick. One of only a hand full of times in the last 20 years. I'll eat there again. Food rulet! LOL

Thanks Bethene, doing fine now. I lurk around the Halloween sites too but haven't posted much at any of them. Does seam to be more for folks to build and make for Halloween than Christmas. Kinda hard to keep a conversation going about how much better the fold down branches are on an artificial tree all summer. LOL

Been checking around a few other Christmas forums. This site is right between the high traffic one and the rest. The high traffic one is a group of folks talking about huge lighting displays and all there components. So like the Halloween folks these guys are building stuff all summer too. The rest of the forums I lurk around have far less traffic and frequent posts than this one. Making this forum one of the better ones out there! Dude! way to go Larry!

A friend got a set of LED Flamingos for his 50th Birthday. They are of medium size and would make a great Christmas tree decor.(He collects Flamingos). They change color from pink to a cream. On a artifical white fir with hot pink balls, starfish and strands of shell garland. Then a couple of lawn Flamingos on top for a tree topper.Wonder if I can talk him into it?

Howdy folks. Haven't been around for the past week or so. Well, finally got through my stepson's stuff. As most of you know he is done the radiation, getting into the regime of taking lifetime hormone pills, and is doing well. Before this we had o declare bankruptcy. Yuck having two ickys in a row...

Well, some days ago my mom in laws brother that she takes care of had to be taken to the hospital (again). He's a brittle diabetic, and had a problem breathing. Prob due to the congestive heart failure thang.

And then, the stepkid's stepmom just had two strokes this week and is in the hospital. (sigh) When it rains it pours.

Good idea about the sponsors. We did that several times and it worked well. Now I'm holding off on the getting together of thatshow because it looks as if I have an interview today with someone about a full time directing job. YAY! We'll see how this turns out...

Hope everyone is doing well!....really! I really really hope that!!!!

Lots of antiques but nothing I could afford. When you go with $20 on ya and everything starts at $50 it's a good bet you'll save some money. LOL

Father in Law told me about an auction he'd gone to last weekend. There was all kinds of Christmas stuff. He bid on one box he thought I'd be interested in. The box had two paper mache Santa candy containers and a complete old German Nativity set with palm trees. It's final bid was $900. He didn't win it. Jokingly told me he stopped bidding at $850. hello every one, finally a nice day around here, went for a drive with hubby, went to one of the parks we camp at and walked around, it was chilly- wind off lake michigan always is, but not bad., tried to get into another cmapgorund on the way home, one of the ones i do my haunt at to double check lots that I might want, we have to make reservations next week already for thet, but htye had it locked and hubby didn't want to walk it, so I am flying blind picking a site, I've only been there once, and that was the halloween week end. I wrote down sites then that looked good to me, but alot of them say that you can't have a big trailer on then, so I lost alot of them that way. They're calling for rain and SNOW over the weekend. SNOW in April of all things. The good news is it's only dropping to around 36 so no hard freeze. But snow? Think I'll throw on a pair of swim trunks and lay out in it till I get covered. How many times does one get the opportunity to get snowed on in April? Well, here in Mo. anyway. LOL

Bethene, hope your time at work went well. I worked with a guy that couldn't stand my guts. Didn't take anything for him to start screaming. So I got into the habit of singing "Jack and Diane" by John Cougar. Every time he'd blow up I'd let out a loud continues chorus of,
" Oh well, Life goes on. Long after the thrill of living is gone."

You'd never seen a guys face turn that many shades of red that quick. LOL I did that for months on end. You'd think after the first 5,18 or 30 times he'd learn to calm down. LOL

Never looked good in shorts anyway. LOL And again, best laid plans of mice and men. Got up around 2:30 pm. But I did make it to the auction last night. Nothing worth buying as far as Christmas items. A lot of really used and faded lights. I did by one project. An old phone stand I'll have to refinish and re-glue back together. Solid wood and only spent $2 on it. Be an end table in the living room to replace the bulky and damaged hexagon shaped on I got for .18 cents. I'll take a before and after shot when I can start working on it. I started watching the debates, but have kinda given up on it,seeing as, thanks to the earlier primary, my vote won't count to elect either one of the dems. What a big mess that has turned out to be,Hillary was the only one on the ballet that was big enough to be a contender, Barak (SP?) and Edwards both took their name off, like they were supposed to, so natch, she won. Some people have said, well it is their own tough luck they took there name off, the delagates should go to Hillary, but, personally, I don't think so. I don't know what they are going to do, I don't like the super delagates thing either. I just wish they would of held the primary at the right time, so every one was on the ballot, and every ones vote counted! Like I said , what a mess

Scraped frost of the car this morning. Frost in April. Got totally spoiled I guess. For the past 5 or more years most of the frost was over with by the end of Feb. This is more back to the norm than what we've had. Be in the 70's tomorrow. That kinda temp swing is normal too. That's MO's idea of spring. Cold, hot, cold, hot. Then it settles on hot and doesn't look back till October. LOL

Yea, I had to scrape off the frost this morning too, but right now is in the 60's with upper sixties or seventy's predicted for the rest of the week, I hope they are right! In my part of Michigan, you never know what you'll get for spring, it could be cold and last until the end of June and then turn blazing hot for July , or get hot right away, until July, when it gets cold! LOL! I live close enough to the lake to have it affect us, lake affect snow, and storms, or cooler when the rest of the interior of the state is hot. But I love Lake Michigan, would rather move closer yet, than farther away!

I push mowed the front and side yards after I got home today. It'd must have been close to 70. And not a cloud in the sky. Man it was hot. Rain in the forecast for the next 3 days. Well it will be the weekend. LOL

Went to an auction this morning. Spent $1.00. Got 2 boxes for .50 each. The only things Christmas like are a collection of coffee cups, six electric candles and 10 small glasses that I can use to hold small candles. Got a hand full of glass glasses and some old aluminum kitchen stuff. Not bad for a buck.

Awesome find putrid, gotta love a deal. We used to go to auctions all the time, but I rarely if ever got anything for a buck. One auction we did do well at was "Sears" had an auction they were moving locations and all their display stuff was being auctioned and I got a gorgeous chandelier for 75.00 Reg was 700.00 Course that was 10 years ago, now thats sitting in a box, waiting for the weather to get nice so I can throw it in my garage sale. LOL My hubby teases me and says "you buy way to much stuff, and 2 weeks later it ends up in your garage sale box" And ya know, hes truly right on that, but I haven't built up the guts to admit it to him yet! Hey all....I'm baaaaaack.

Disney was oh so cool. We all had such a great time, only wish it would have been longer. (Minus the vomiting, but I'll save that story for another day.)
Things are super busy here -- I am becoming a Brownie Girl Scout leader. (Pray for me, lol.) and I'm also going to be doing the Breast Cancer 3day in October. (3 days of walking 20 miles a day, camping in DC) It requires a rediculous amount of training and fundraising, so I'm worried that I won't have time to visit often and that halloween props will be nonexistent. But it is for an awesome cause, so I'm excited. Gotta keep busy in the summer some how. So that is where I have been...missed ya'll!

Hello all , been up north, about a 2 hour drive, for the last coupla days, had a good time, it was a a little town, Mainistee, that calls itself the victorian port city, the down town, if you can call it that, is all old store fronts, that are origional to the victorian times, alot of old houses too. it sits right on lake michigan. I also went to a christmas store, it is open all year around, and bought 2 ornaments (surprise!?!) and a christmas pin, it is a really tiny jingle bell with a snow man on top, I have seen these as ornaments, but this is a little pin , like for your coat. Hey all...
So, I've got bad news...my grandma isn't doing well. She is having a miriad of problems which pretty much boils down to the fact that she has about a month left to live. She has been in and out of hospitals for digestive/respiratory problems, and is now quite happy with the decision to live the rest of her life free of machines, surrounded by family in my aunts house. She has lived 89 wonderful years, and I'm proud to call her Oma -- one heck of a lady. If you are a praying person, I wouldn't mind you asking The Big Guy for her comfort and for His love.
Just wanted to update you on my wierd in's and out's.

Big hugs to you Mummy deer-est and your family during this very difficult time. Knowing the end is near is never easy, take comfort in knowing that she made a decision to live out her final days to be with her family. Keep smiling as hard as it is, share a laugh, a hug and a kiss with her, its just a good feeling to just have a few moments with the oma you will forever remember.

I lost my granny several yrs ago, but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of her. We to, had a similar situation, with approx 30 days to live, and sadly, the doctor nailed it almost to the day. During that time, we did alot of family things, we laughed, we cried, we hugged, and we kissed. As much as I wish her back, I could not bare to see her go through that again. Stay strong for her, your family, and for yourself.

You are in my prayers as is your Oma.

Good bless you, and your family during this difficult time.

Just got the thing plugged in. Gotta get ready for work. Catch ya'll in the morning.

I'm totally glad you have time to spend with her Mummy deer-est.

Thanks for the plug and good words about Cryptopropology Bethene and Sickie Ickie.

LOL! Great line! have you worked with the director before?

Man that sucks about Oma. I'm part Native American, so oral tradition has always been important for us. I remember one truth that was told about an elder of a tribe that was over a hundred. One day he called his family and friends around him and said he had lived a wonderful life and he was ready to let go. When questioned how he could physically do that, he answered that over the years he had learned how to keep his spirit, so it should be obvious he knew then how to let go, too. And with with one final goodbye, he let go to join the great spirit he always knew was there to welcome him.

My mom was a big believer in the afterlife (in our case Heaven), and we had discussions about what we thought it was like, and how we would welcome one another once the other got there, too. When she was died unexpectedly, it was a great comfort to have had those talks together.

Putrid, why don't you list your site here again, so others can check it out? :)

Thanks for the help guys. But when it rains it pours -- my grandfather (Oma is dad's mom, Pap is mom's dad) had a heartattack last night. Still getting news on that. Once my littlest gets over her tempature, I hope to go and see them.

I know how that pouring scenario rolls. Bankruptcy for us, the my son's tumors, then my wife's uncle who is a brittle diabetic having problems with breathing (only a matter of time), then my stepkid's stepmom on life support this week. Hang in there kiddo! After all, what's the alternative? heh

Looking forward to hearing good and comforting news for ya'll. I've watched many friends and family members pass on. My heart goes out to ya Mummy deer-est.

Well compared to ya'll my problems don't add to much. Reading this will sound like I'm just complaining. LOL

Got a bombshell dropped on me at work this week. Nothing I didn't already know was going to happen. None the less it doesn't mean I'm happy about it. They're re-organizing the factory to try to stay competitive. I'm going to first shift with a cut in pay. They gave me the option to stay on third but I'd have to take a $6+ cut in pay. The cut in pay for going to first is only $1.50 an hour. That adds up to more than I can save up in a years time. Looks like things are going to get real tight. Prob is I don't drink, smoke, eat out, go places, or have any expensive habits I can drop to save around 40 a week. This is going to be a challange.

Oops, forgot to add this to my last post.

I have come up with an idea so the factory can make more money. The plant will be able to cut out the middle man and sell direct to the public. It'll not only make the factory more money but it fits right in to all the 'green' products out there. This idea will save both water and the energy it takes to process clean water.

You know how guys pea in the shower? Well how about 'Pea threw shower doors? You have to go and there's someone in the shower. All you have to do is pea threw a hole already in the glass door. We could come out with a whole line of pea threw windows and doors. Have to go in the middle of the night and don't want to make all that noise opening the window? Welcome to pea threw windows. Haven't thought about no.2 yet. That's kinda hard to do standing up next to a glass door.

Sickie Ickie
05-03-2008, 02:54 PM
you have to add a hole in the shower wall for that. :p

Sorry to hear about the cut in pay. My boss hires people and that cuts everyone's hours. Almost everyone got a whole day cut at work.

Putrid and Sickie, sorry to hear about your pay/hour cuts. The economy stinks, I sure hope it turns around real soon, I just read that ole' G.W. has the lowest presidential rating since Harry Truman, and he is close to his, not a surprise to me, I personally think his approval rating is still too high, on my book it's in the negative numbers, any way, I hope things get better for you!

Have a pretty good feeling this guy that offered my directing partner and I the theatre job is shady at the least and a conman at most. Discussed this with my show partner all week, and she told the guy (in a nice way) yesterday we were stopping the show.

I'd be a happy man if I could make it in selling haunt items with my biz partner and being paid to do theatre with my show partner.

thats too bad sickie, it's too bad people gotta be so shady, or down right criminal. I am so not like that, I can't understand it. Selling haunt things would be a dream job!!

Sorry to hear that Sickie Ickie. I know a few folks I wouldn't do business with either. There's a guy at work who's been ripped off by the same guy over and over again. but he keeps telling everyone that he's known this guy all his life. He wouldn't do him wrong. Once that wool is over someone's eyes it's hard to convince them otherwise.

Sorry to hear about your cut in hrs and pay, that does suck! Makes it that much worse where you can't find something to drop to make up for it. When all else fails, tell your boss, "thats ok, I'll take the cut in pay, and since I have no bad habits, or extra-curricular activities I can drop, I'll just skip a few lunches and dinner's to make up for the 40 per week." :D All kidding aside, with the cost of living these days, one can't afford a cut in pay......we NEED raises! Hang in there, things will look up!

Sorry to hear about your job, putrid. It's crazy how much the basics cost these days...I hope you able to get some hours back so you don't have to cut out your internet! We would miss you too much!

And Sickie -- those shady people are everywhere. My friend got take for a few thousand by such a person. You were wise to cut and run.

Having a yard sale this weekend to raise money for my breast cancer walk. Were gonna sell "vintage" stuff, rubber ducks to the kiddies, baked goods and lemonade. Hopefully we'll get a few kind soles who just drop some money in a bucket. But I'm not holding my breath!

Sickie Ickie

Baked goods always make a profit. Where I am around here, we have to have a food and sanitation license to sell homemade stuff though. (sigh)

putrid

I know baked goods sell real high on Wednesday morning auctions. These folks would pay more for a bag of 12 cookies than you would for a package of Orios. We wont talk about sanitation. What you don't know wont hurt ya. LOL

Well found out today when I start days. It'll be on the 19th. The day before the full moon. Guess I'll use that as an excuse to be cranky. LOL Other than the pay cut I'm looking forward to it. I know I'll get more done around here. Wont have to try and stay awake all day and end up being miserable.

Well I know my TV watching will go way down. I'll miss all those infomercials. JK LOL There's only a few things on I watch anyway. Two programs on once a week each. My home time now is split between the few hours I get up before I have to go to work and the time I'm up in the morning. That'll all be reduced down to one stretch. Easier to get more done that-a-way.

Rain. rain, rain and even more rain. My puddles have puddles in them. It's rained so much here the water doesn't drain anymore. It just piles up along side of things. LOL The grass isn't taller, it's floating on top of all the water. I've got some plants to get in the ground but can't dig holes. It's not good to try to plant things in mud. Water doesn't compress. If you back fill around a plant with mud you may end up with air pockets around the roots.

Before this latest batch of rain I cut up a large clump of Zebra striped Miscanthus grass with an ax. Like chopping threw 18 inches of steel wool. Managed to pull a tendon in my left hand and hit the side of my right foot with the ax. ( a signe of age? LOL) No real harm done. Because the ground is so wet I'll have to wait to transplant them. The good news is I'm able to keep these clumps above ground. No chance of them drying out. LOL

Man, Putrid, that much rain would be aweful, we have had some, but not like that! Today is fairly chilly, but so far sunny. We had talked about going camping next week but a couple of days looks like rain, so don't know, it is supposed to be in the sixty's os not super warm either. Oh well, play it by ear I guess.

Bethene, I've camped when it was raining. Nothing like a damp blanket to end a damp day. LOL Hope the weather turns good for ya'll. Looks like the rain here will stop for at least one day. Going to squeeze in some outdoors time. Or in this case, mowing the lawn. LOL Might even get more plants in the ground.

This will be my last week of 3rd shift. Going to be a real life changer. I've been on nights for the better part of 20 years now. Wont know how to act in all that light. LOL

Happy belated Mothers day ladies, Hope everyone had a nice weekend. We had quite a bit of rain also over the weekend but hopefully warm weather will be heading our way soon. My sons baseball game was cancelled yesterday due to the rain of course, and it was too soggy to go out anywhere so we vegged out at home. turned out to be a nice evening with the kiddies. Going to see The Jersey Boys tomarrow with hubby, looking forward to it, haven't been out on a date with hubby since the last time pigs flew. I heard its a great show, can't wait.
Hope everyone has a great week. And watch out for that ax Putrid or you'll ax an eye out :)

LOL Nancj. Never hit myself in the head but I do have a few scars on my shins. Nothing says you need to spend more time inside like whacking yourself with an ax. LOL

There was this big bright thing in the sky today. Some folks said it was the sun but my bet is still on a slow moving UFO. LOL It was nice to have one day without rain. Haven't watched the Weather channel yet so don't know what's instore for tomorrow. Didn't get as much done as I would have liked. But there's always next week or so depending on when the rain stops again. LOL

Well, my mothers day blew. And so did the yard sale -- or, the lack there of.
I was sick (I swear to God, you all -- please just put a freakin quarintine sign on my house and the school and be done with me) -- temps up to 103, which super irks me bc I went to the doctor 3 freakin times before they gave me antibiotics. Ugh.

So, no yard sale as I was in bed shivering. But it probably wouldn't have gone too well anyway, as it has been raining buckets here too. Like putrid said -- the puddles have puddles. So, now I have half a garage full of stuff and I have to figure out what to do with it! (See, the yard sale was a community one, and I don't think people will come all the way over here for just one sale.) Ah well....

Total bummer Mummy deer-est. Have you tried Zicam? I'll warn ya now it's like putting someone else's snot up your nose. But it works. You'd use it at the first sign of a cold or flue. Didn't get a flue shot this year ( man I feel WAY better ) and this will be the first year I've only missed a 1/2 day because of a flue. Usually out 3 or 4 times.

It was lightning like a black and white horror flick last night. But we didn't get much rain out of it. I got all five of the Zebra miscathus grass in the ground this morning. Digging 18 inches down and I hit standing water. Never seen it this wet. Also got the rest of the cone flowers transplanted. Still have a long way to go outside. Hopefully it'll dry up this weekend and I'll be able to get a truck or two of mulch dumped in the yard.
