Has anyone become a member at Freecycle.org here?
http://www.freecycle.org/
The idea behind the site is to let folks give stuff away free to folks that could use it. Thus keeping usable and good stuff out of land fills. You have to join to read what's being offered but it's free and worth it.

To navigate the site type in the town and state you live in. You'll get a list of results that match. More like "guess it matches" but you should be able to find something close to where you live. LOL Click on it. Then you can do a state wide search to get something closer or even the town or county where you live. You'll be asked to fill out a request to join form and you will need a yahoo id. Also free and easy.

I belong to 3 freecycle groups. The county where I live and two towns closer to St. Louis. I've seen a lot of cool stuff being offered. And some stuff you'd just end up tossing yourself. LOL All my info and passwords are on my other computer and it's dead. I haven't rejoined yet but plan on it soon. Be a great place to find things all year long. The good stuff goes quick!

I also belong to a very active group. I only get the email daily, but that leaves me high and dry a lot of the time...I just can't keep up with the emails when they come one at a time. I have seen a lot of great stuff, but the one thing my husband doesn't like is having to go to a strangers house to get stuff -- he can't really get past that.

Sickie Ickie, the one here in town is lame. Nothing but clothing and used baby items. The one's toward St. Louis are real active. Try a bigger town near you and see if it's any better.

We have a some-what active community. There have been some good things on there, but I haven't gotten anything yet. I'm actually posting my first today.

My girlfriend and I are members of our local community, and it seems to be hit and miss. Mummy I have found disregarding the emails and going directly to the site to see what's there, the best way to find good stuff. If your hubby has a hard time with strangers how about leaving out your things with a note at a prearranged time? I have done this in the past and it worked out fine for us.

I suggested that too, Sandy Claws...but he is still uncomfortable with it all. I understand if fear, though -- he is protective, in a good way. :)

I am also a member, stuff gets taken really fast, so I always end up missing the good listings by a couple of days...
