Which scent do you most identify with the holiday? To me, for some reason every time I smell vanilla I think of Christmas. It has to be the fact that when I was growing up my Mother would burn vanilla scented candles. Of course I also think of pine and bayberry scents, but vanilla always puts me back to about age 8 or so. :)

For me it's Sassafras tea, not brewed, just dry in an open jar with a little cinnamon mixed in.

From the time when I was very young my family always bought these little log cabins in downtown Chicago at the big Woolworths store. Every year we got a new one and a box of Balsam Fir Incense to go along.

I was unable to find this stuff for a very long time until last year when my Aunt sent me one from home......oh the memories it brought right back. I will be burning them in my home all thru the month of December. It has the best of memories for me!

The smell of oranges used to remind me of christmas. We didnt really have fresh fruit for most of the year, a big family and only dad's wages, the weekly budget was a bit "tight" but every christmas us kids all got a big sack of toys (how dad manage that I will never know) and there was a bag in each sack with an Apple, an Orange and a handful of mixed nuts in the shell. The Orange was a special treat, and the smell was "christmas" to me. Loved Oranges ever since !

The smell of a cigar also reminds me of christmas. After the Christmas feast (and it was a feast too!), my dad would light up what seemed to be at the the time an enormous cigar (his one christmas indulgence). It was the only time my dad smoked a cigar, another of those special, once a year smells.

I indulge in a cigar at christmas now, in memory of my dear departed dad (& mum) and those christmases long ago

Spruce... that was our usual Christmas tree, except for the barren years of the aluminum tree... A friend sent me some spruce incense for my birthday - I can't wait to see how it works!

Oh, I should explain - we can't have a tree. We have a large number of cats who delight in dismembering our tree - we finally just surrendered to the inevitable. Now we use a Yule Log - takes up less space, and there's not much they can do to it....

...and a studio apt? :p

Two-bedroom, but the cats aren't allowed in the bedrooms. Well, except for Buddha. He has this tendency to run outside whenever the door's opened... so we let him in my room when one or both of us is going out. He can stay in there quite comfortably for a few hours if it comes to that....

TMI?

I also enjoy every ones stories and memories- that's part of making the holidays special! Probably for me the scents would be pine, cinnamon and cookies baking.

Well, the spruce incense is a no-go. It smells nice, but nothing like a Christmas tree. Think I'll see what I can find in the way of balsam incense. Any suggestions?

Christmas scents for me are pine and berries. Really not sure why either. I have never had a real tree growing up that I can remember and we didn't have those scents in the house that I can remember either. hehe.. oh well I do now anyway.

For me, it isn't really Christmas time until I stand in the middle of all those trees at the lot - hopefully on a cold evening like we have here today - and smell all that pine.

Then I come home to smell baking, mulling spices and the fireplace. Ahhhh.

Last night I used my tart warmer and put in Yankee's "White Chocolate Mint" scented wax tart and I couldn't believe the smell in the house. It was awesome. I need to get me more of them!

All I can say about the little log cabin and incense is Totally Sweat! The insense logs that came with it smells more like burning wood to me. But the red cedar is great.

Thanks for the link Mistress Muffy.

A word to the wiser than I. I thought one of those cones was out. Set my kitchen trash can on fire. OOPS Not exsactly the smell I was going for LOL. Remember folks, the dumber you are the more dangerous things can be. Nothing against the product. I should have checked before I dumped.
