Hello folks!
I thought I'd let you hear a couple of traditional Quebec Holiday songs...
The first one is "La tourtière" which literraly translates to "The Meat Pie"
Click here to watch La-tourtiere (http://media.putfile.com/La-tourtiere)
The second one is "La petite jument" which translates to "The Small Mare"

Some traditional Quebec music doen't really say anything! "La tourtière" speaks about this traditional food that we cook here, mostly in the Lac St-Jean region. It's a HUGE meat pie (about 6 inches high and at least 12 inches in diameter) filled with beef, pork and deer (or any other "wild" meat), diced potatoes, onions, herbs, and beef consommé.... it's DELICIOUS!
"La petite jument" first lines translate to this:
"Behind our house, there is a pond,
Come on, come on, small mare,
The king's son is going hunting,
small, small, small, smalll, small.
Come on, come on, small mare,
Come on, come on, small mare.
The king's son is going hunting,
Come on, come on, small mare,
With his large silver gun.
small, small, small, smalll, small.
Come on, come on, small mare,
Come on, come on, small mare."
As you can see, there's not much there!!! :p
But we like to listen to this kind of music during the Holidays, and stomp our feet to the beat while "playing spoons" (I'm still trying to find a Youtube video of this!! - you hold to spoons back to back, and hit them to the beat between your leg and hand - hard to explain!)
Anyways, I thought I'd share this with you guys! Let me know what you think, even though you won't understand a word!!!
:)
