I thought of that mummy ..hmm I made a witches cauldron out of card broad and duct tape and a bucket . Then I plastered over it .. but it has been raining here I didn't think that would hold up to good.. How would you make the chicken wire round?

Maybe should have stocked up on some different sized beach balls, hot glued them together and spray painted them white. Something for next year possibly.
I am the same way for coming up with an idea and then something that I could use (ie: extra large pool noodles) is out of season.

Not a clue, Blinky, as I have never worked with it -- but I do recall seeing on HF someone make a spider victim out of chicken wire, and it seemed as though she was very good at bending it to her will! Maybe you could track that down for help?

I have actually put alot of thought into this this year. The 2 ideas I narrowed down to were paper Mache over beach balls (same concept as pumpkin rot), and carved styrofoam (I have a few large peices). I decide to go with the paper mache this year, only becuase I had one ball already done (unfinished pumpkin) only thing is I am worried about weather proofing.
Granted, if this is for a large scale or oversized snow man, I would go with chicken wire and MM or sprayed foam.

Making the prop wave is no biggie - doing the legs on skis would not be hard either.
I'm actually in the planning stage of 3 skiers in a row - modify from the idea of WormyT's pop-up skulls from up and down to the sliding action of the legs of a skier.
O O |____
|___| up & down action to <-- sliding action --> |____/---@
/
@
@ = motor
O = skulls which gets replaced with skier legs
As far as waving, see the pics of motor/arm on penguins decorating house (http://christmasfanclub.com/showthread.php?t=280) - that's a up and down motion which, from the front, could easily be a wave.

I Thank you for your help This looks like something i will look in too.
I guess the body would have to be light weight to pull this off.

I've worked with chicken wire before, I had to make a baseball for my sons basesball parade. It's not a sturdy material to work with alone unless you make a frame for it out of a thick wire like the thickness of a coat hanger to make it sturdy. I would probably make a snowman frame out of the thick wire soder it together, and cover it with the chicken wire (it bends easily) and tie it to the frame with plastic ties. not sure what I would cover it up with though. hope this helps.

I did not - and have no clue how they did it - my wife's work had some team building exersices - this one the winning snowman - from another team.

I am sooo in awe of this snowman, I think I may dedicate part of my prop time to figuring out how to make it. :)

okay one more idea for ya
what about those black plastic cauldrons
3 dif sizes
just cut the lip off and set next one on that
then duct tape them or use L brackets to hold together
paint those with krylon plastic spray paint
you can always cover with white fabric after that too.
should be light weight enough for ya

Seems a bit expensive to me, Blinks. Spirit had them for $10, Menards had a little smaller for under $10, and Ebay occasionally has some.

I usually find cauldrons at goodwill and those types ..for about a buck to 3 bucks
my friend gave me 4 of them last yr so maybe I try this out some day ..she used them for planters so there are holes in them on the bottom.. this idea may be just the ticket for me.

If it wasn't for the fact that you want it to move, I was going to suggest using tumbleweeds. A tumbleweed snowman in Texas would be cute. You get 3 different sized tumbleweeds, spray them with fake snow and wire them together.

They were the "new" thing back in the mid 70's. My mom had us out collecting tumbleweeds and dragin' home. The darn snowmen never got made though.
