View Full Version : Mounting Outdoor Lights on Aluminum Siding

I'm in a new rental this year which means a new set of decorating challenges.
The place is covered in aluminum siding. I was able to jury-rig some plastic eave clips to hold icicles on the front, but the aluminum edges are not strong enough to support C-9s. Does anyone know of a REMOVABLE adhesive that is strong enough to support C-9s and will bond to both the painted aluminum and the plastic C-9 mount? Any other ideas?

I had someone buy mini colored hot glue sticks off me just for that reason, puppymom. First time I'd heard of it, too. He also had aluminum siding, however he went on to tell me that a buddy of his used colored hot glue to put up his light cords and it held well and was able to be popped off by pulling on them afterwards leaving no "scars."

Thanks folks! The hot glue works great and I found some 'velcro-like' picture hangers from 3M's Command line (my personal favorite removable adhesive) that work like a charm as well. Merry Christmas!!

I use siding hooks, they are plastic, and attach under the stips if siding, they just pop in and out, have been using them on vinyl siding for years.

Yup Frosty, that's them! Locally, I got them at different stores, one year it was Hobby Lobby, alot of stores have them hanging by the lights and other hooks like gutter hooks, , I would think most places have them, I have had mine for a few years, but I have seen them since. I just don't remember where, sorry, old age creeping in!

Bethene,
Is your vinyl siding the interlocking type or does it just overlap? My friend has interlocking and is not sure if these will work on his house.

I thought I was the only one that used duct tape to hold up C-9s. I have a grey metal roof so it works pretty good.

I believe it is overlapping, all I know is every other "board" has a opening to stick the hook in, so I am assuming it is over lapping. I would say if it has a crack of a opening between the "boards", you could stick a hook into it.

His is interlocking, which means not only does it overlap but it has a curved edge on the bottom that hooks to the curved edge of the piece under it. He posted a new thread on this so maybe someone will have some good ideas. I also told him about Chris's use of running a line across the top and bottom of his house to attach the lights. Thanks Bethene. I appreciate your quick response.
