There's still good music out there and I want to hear it all!

Got my first Christmas music CD for 2010.

'Jazz pour Noel' Trio Lorraine Desmarais.

I've only listened it to it once so this is just first impressions. Really like Lorraine Desmarais's piano playing. Great bass player and really good drummer. The dude on tenor sax? Kinda gets carried away at times. LOL However he does add something to 'Jingle Bells'. There are two songs of just solo piano. Although not pure jazz but leaning more toward classical they're still good. I'd say all in all it's a good CD. A good addition to the collection.

I was expecting to see some new blow molds you had acquired. Duh, you certainly would not have posted about blow molds in Christmas Music forum. Guess its late and I didn't pay attention.

I did listen to the samples. I'm not a jazz music fan, but that was pretty good.

Just when you'd think there was no Big Crosby Christmas music I haven't collected yet I run across another CD! This ones got 4 recordings I know I don't have.
Jingle bells, (yep another one. Think I have 5 hours of Jingle bells recordings LOL)
The Christmas song, ( only recording I've ever heard of him singing this song.)
Here comes Santa Claus ( with Gene Autry)
and Sleigh ride.

The rest I'll have to listen closer to.

The classics are simply outstanding.

Not to hi-jack your thread; but who is in the industry today that will have the lasting ability of Bing?

Now that would be a cool subject for a music thread.
It would be really hard to say. Groups like Mannheim Steamroller and Trans-Siberian Orchestra both have large fan bases. Guess it would be like the movie "A Christmas Story'. An accidental classic. A simple movie that struck a cord with everyone. I'd consider it just as classic as "A Charlie Brown Christmas', "A Christmas Carol' and "It's a Wonderful Life'. Someone will come along and strike a cord with the right sound at the right time. And before you know it we'll all have another name to add to the classic Christmas singer list.

Harry Connick, Jr. will probably continue on. Also, surprisingly Barry Manilow. His first Christmas CD was outstanding. Maybe the best version ever of "It's Cold Outside". Barbra Streisands Christmas album is also timeless. Of course, these are just redos of the "classics". I'm not sure if there is any new songs that will endure time.

Rybcon, I've seen a lot of Harry Connick Jr's stuff. Have to give it another listen. Bab's (streisand) stuff I like. Barry Manilow? Off the record and I'll never admit to this but I really like his pop music. Just don't tell anyone...and don't tell anyone I like Streisand either. They wouldn't believe you anyway. LOL Will have to give Manilow's Christmas stuff a spin. It's very possible that any one of em could become Chrismtas classics.

One thing that can't be forgotten is most folks will listen to the music they had as a kid. Passing that on to their kids. Like the guy at work who can't have Christmas without singing along with Mitch Miller. His wife and son in tow. Just like he did with his family when he was a kid.

Of the 13 recordings on this CD I only know of one I have now. The two medleys I'll have to listen closer to when I get the CD. SWEET! I do think it's important to note that for the most part Bing sings the songs the same. It's the music and background singers that are different. The only real differences in a few of the recordings I have is the timing of the musical phrases going on behind Bing's melody. Same notation and instrumentation. Just different timing. If you weren't paying attention they'd sound like the same song played twice. Others are completely different. Really like the different ones.

Take the song 'Jingle Bells'. Both of these recordings are Bing.

Song no. 9 on this Amazon link
It's Christmas time

And song no 11 at this one.

Just added two more classical CDs the the Christmas collective. Going threw what I have I realized I don't have a lot of different interpretations in this form of music. Most of the stuff i have is choir and not instrumental. Both of these CDs are instrumental by folks I don't have any recordings from yet.

Joyous Music Christmas

and

And the Angels Sing

Kind of a weird tittle for a CD with no one singing on it. LOL

Thanks Buckeylights. There is some really good music on these three CDs. Only one really shines.

As always I gotta through my two cents in and let ya'll know what i think about these CDs.

The first on the list, Joyous Music Christmas. It's done really well but is guilty of one of my pet peeves. Some of the songs have really long entros. Silver Bells is 4:02 long. It goes on for 1:19 before you ever hear the first note of the song. Still well done. But if I could find a way to lop off the unnecessary stuff......

Next is 'And the Angels Sing'. Kinda a weird tittle for a CD with no vocals on it. LOL This is a great CD. All the songs are short and well done. There are 3 different conductors on this recording. Not a full orchestration but smaller groups of instruments. For those of ya'll that don't like the overdone. to flowery and stiff classical Christmas recordings out there this one's for you.

The third one is actually tittled 'Christmas Classics'. This one has a hand full of good songs on it. Full orchestration without the dragged out intro. However it also has singing on it. I don't have any problem with choirs. Except when they try to sing modern. Stiff and lifeless is to easy on it. More like a group of people suffering from extreme hemorrhoids sitting in rubbing alcohol. There's even an attempt at Jazz. I'm a white guy calling these folks crackers. LOL One other note. The piano playing is just as stiff and lifeless on a few of the songs as well. There are 7 out of 18 songs worth listening to.

this one has several I didn't have.

As does this one.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005AMNU/ref=oss_product

My biggest problem now is finding CDs with more than one needed recording. Find plenty of CDs with 10 recordings I have and one I don't. Still can't justify buying a CD for just one song.
...and the hunt continues...
