Is this ok to start?

I am planning to recreate the small wooden snowman family to large size using pink foam. In the bucket are my cloth remnants and embellishments. It won't be exact, but as close as I can get it.

Sorry, Friday's paper had an unfortunate headline.

All the major players are cut out. I need to cut out the little picket fence. I still have a lot left over, you can see behind them. This is all from one 8x4sheet. The cutting out is the fast and easy part, it is the painting that takes the longest.

On this stuff paint takes forever to dry. I routinely browse the 'oops' section at home depot, you can get the little sample jars for 50 cents, quarts for $1 and gallons for $5. Perfect for outside craft stuff, even thought it is interior paint, it holds up really well on this foam, especially the satin paint. My black Halloween stuff has never chipped or peeled, although the black does fade from the sun. When I run across a gallon in either black or white I always buy it.

Forever to dry? Did you peel the plastic off first?

This project is seriously awesome folks! Gonna be a tough challenge!

Of course I peel the plastic, silly. You forget I live in a climate which is usually 90% humidity and we are having some wanky weather this week. It snowed again last night, this morning my windshield was covered in ice, but by lunch I was walking the jogging path around the lake with just a vest on.

This past weekend was cold and rainy, so drying was hindered somewhat. Going to use the little roller and try to knock out the white this weekend.

PS. birdhouse done, fence done, shovel done, hat done, bag of greens done, boys hat done, buttons done.

I take back what I said about paint on pink foam taking forever to dry. today we finally had a beautiful sunny day and my paint was dry in no time:

Here's the christmas tree with scratch coat, then again with all the drybrushed highlights next to the white snowmen. It was a little windy, I had to watch them as the wind kept picking up the little boy snowman and flipping him around, luckily after mostly dry.

Daddy's head is pink because the hat will cover there.

I couldn't imagine what you were going to do with the men's boxers...what a unique idea to use it for a knit cap. The whole display is just adorable. And I really like that you made them separate for easy storage. I am all about that too. Great design, beautiful execution.

Thanks everybody. Ever since I've had that little plaque I've wanted to do that. I'd never have gotten it done if it had not been for you folks. Like Edwin said, it's not about the prize, it's just fun to do.
