Now, I'm sure we all love just about all Christmas movies, but what are some of your just all time favorites?
I'd have to say mine are the original Scrooge, It's a Wonderful Life (makes my heart feel all warm and fuzzy!), The Santa Clause, and A Christmas Story (I watched that at least 20 times last Christmas... it just never gets old)
What are yours??

I'm gonna be the Scrooge here and say that the first thread should have been in here, not General Discussion.
No big deal, but I'd hate for a member to feel bad when they did the right thing.
So, WanderingStar, don't feel silly. You did it right.

Christmas Vacation (see avatar). Also Christmas Story. It's a Wonderful Life is good. I also like the Shirley Temple version of Heidi. And, at the risk of embarrassing myself, Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. I seem to be the only one I know who likes this one.

I watched 4 Christmases (with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon) this week, and my husband and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty funny. I would not consider it a traditional Christmas movie and would never make it a family tradition to watch it. But it was a good movie, IMO.
I guess my fav is still A Christmas Story, and any of the Christmas Carol movies.

I don't know why, but I just can't stand that Vince Vaughn guy. That "4 Chrstmases" movie did look kind of interesting, though.
I loved this year's "A Christmas Carol". I'll definitely buy that one on DVD.
Avatar was outstanding. Best 3-D live action movie I've ever seen.

We did not get to see it in the movie theaters, just have to wait for it on DVD! As for 4 Christmases I liked it, just not going to watch it for awhile...

I got to be introduced to Vince briefly when acting in a movie with him. Seemed like a nice guy, but others said that he liked to party too much. Who knows?

Which movie was it, Sickie?
You didn't tell us you were a movie star! :)
(Didn't Vince Vaughn play Norman Bates in the "Psycho" re-make several years ago?)

That's cool Sickie!!! (and how appropriate!) I remember showing that movie! LOL We did seem to have that one for longer than most that time of year, so you must have done a bang up job!
I also remember thinking to myself "Paul Giamatti" as Santa? But he did a good job!

There were some pretty talented actors in it. I was unsure how Giamatti would do, too- but he was pretty good.

Giamatti was great in that movie about drinking wine. I forget the name of it now.
I never saw Fred Claus.

Hello friends
My favourite movie is HOME ALONE ,This Movie was released in 1990 and was the first in a series of 3. It stars “Macaulay Culkin” as Kevin Mccallister, “Joe Pesci” as Harry, “Daniel Stern” as Marv and “Katherine O’Hara” as Kate. Kevin who is 8 years old is accidentally left behind when his Family leaves very early one morning for a Vacation in Paris. There are so many kids and relatives going all at one time that they fail to count all the heads properly

Allastair Sim in "A Christmas Carol" 1951
HANDS DOWN! My favorite of all time:):):)
What?!?!?!? No "A Christmas Carol" - 1938 with Reginald Owens and Gene Lockhart?? Only the best "A Christmas Carol" ever!!
Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The definitive Christmas Carol adaption is the 1951 version with Alistair Sim. Hands down. The rest follow.
With that settled, ha ha, I don't hate the 1938 version, but I don't particularly like it, either. Way too many liberties were taken with the story and I didn't think Reginald Owen did a very good job Scrooge. Also, it was just too "Hollywood!"
Here's a quick copy and paste from Wikipedia that details just a few of the issues I feel the '38 version has:
"Some of the grimmer aspects of the story went completely unmentioned or unseen, in order to make this a "family film" in the style of other MGM literary adaptations. Although Marley's Ghost did appear, the phantoms wailing outside Scrooge's window were not shown. Scrooge's fiancee, who eventually leaves him because of his miserly ways, was completely dropped from the film, as were the two starving children "Want" and "Ignorance", who hid within the folds of the Ghost of Christmas Present's robe. Also gone were the thieves who ransack Scrooge's belongings after he "dies" in the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come segment. While Gene Lockhart's performance as Bob Cratchit is admired, he is often criticized for looking too "well-fed" for the role."
But to each their own. It's also my father's favorite version. But I have always suspected that those who prefer the '38 version to all others probably grew up with that version and see it through rose-colored, nostalgia-tinted glasses when they watch it.

It's pretty good. Definitely a welcome addition.
It actually JUST came out on Blu-Ray yesterday, and I intend to pick it up as soon as I can.

Now you're just being mean :)
Actually I like both versions. Nothing newer though has even come close.
If I remember the story correctly the 1938 Scrooge was to be played by a Barrymore. He either became ill or had other commitments and recommended/pushed for Reginald Owens.

Ha ha. I would have to be honest and say that I feel the Scott, Stewart, and Carrey versions are all superior to the Owen version. I could go into detail about why I feel that way . . . but I will resist.
As for the production of the film, you're right. Apparently Lionel Barrymore, who had long been the voice of Scrooge in a radio adaptation of the story, was scheduled to play the role, but his arthritis forced him to drop out. That would kind of suck, having to give up a film role because of something like arthritis. I mean, it's not cancer or anything.

-Santa Claus (1959)
