If you have any unused 55gal barrels then this is the project for you...
you need about 3 barrels as of right now, 1 - 10' x6" pvc pipe, 1 - 10' x 4" pvc pipe, 2 4" pvc T, 1 4" 90 degree elbow, and 2 - 4" end caps, also some wood...
My current status is: I have it all cut out except the head... kinda up in the air what I am going to use for that... I have a few pics of my progress.. as soon as I able I will try to upload them with measurement... I will also go in more detail
My need now is however to figure out what to use for the head... and like some other suggestion...
One last thing... this Nutcracker is going to be at least 15' tall...
UPDATE.. well it is finished... The head is a 55gl barrel cut about 3/4.
back of the head (barrel) you have to cut it in half from top to bottom the overlap both halves in the back of the head this allows to shrink the roundness on top of the head giving it a taper in look

15 foot tall ! I can't wait to see pics of your progress !! I was going to suggest a basketball for the head but on a scale like that it will need to be bigger. I would look in garden centres for a large planter.

Well I would like to see pis of this project it sounds cool..
Head: May be a 5 gal paint bucket upside down the handle can be his chin strap and paint the face on like Candyman did his clay pots. part of the bucket for hat and part for face.

Well, I was too late on the white barrels, but after asking some of my acquaintences in the wash bay, my work friend got me one yesterday. Looks like I'll be doing a version of the project for this season, too! :D
I really like the suggestion of the cauldrin for the head. I have a large one that I placed upside-down on the bottom (now top) of the barrel. Uh...clear? LOL My camera is AWOL at the moment, or I'd take a pic. It's a little small, but fake fur may add dimension to the sides.
The 5 gallon bucket for the hat is too small for my version, blinks, but I found that a pop-up hamper is just the right size. I'm thinking of looking for a small plastic garbage can roughly that size at Menards.

Hey! That looks great! Totally different direction than where I'm going, but that's the fun of props. Each person does their own take on them.
When you write up your how-to and submit it to the project site, I'll put it through immediately! Great job again. :D
PS how did you cover the hat so it doesn't act like a cup and fill with water?

Very imaginative! The collective work (gingerbread men, house, nutcracker) will look great together!
Any issues with the size versus wind on the nutcracker? How much does it weigh?

I thought Of a cool idea for people who Like to make dummies: make some elves and have them standing on each others shoulders peeking in the house windows to see who is " Naughty or Nice" for Santa's list..
I cannt make this idea this year so Someone can borrow it..
or they can stand on each other shoulders to decorate the tree that is outside..
OOPs I posted this in the wrong spot Sorry !!!

It moves a little bit when the wind blows... but I got it close to the house so it could block a lot of the wind... I have no idea what this thing weighs... the head was pretty lite... the hat is just part of a barrel with foam and great stuff. The base is 3 x3 platform I thought of putting a flag on him but it becomes another wind issue... Thank you for all your comments

I just got to thinking for next year... I know this is not a halloween forum.. but you know I might make a Frankenstein using this same method...

Very creative. I was thinking of making a much smaller version using wood but no luck finding the size i needed. Never occured to me to use plastic... My mind has taken a vacation.LOL
