What is on your Christmas Wish List this year?
My husband and I have a fixer up and we have been remodeling our house on our own for the last 3 years. We are almost done with our projects. So we decided to buy each other something for the house this year.
Last year we bought each other couches.
This year my wish list includes a new dining room table or some furniture for our bedroom (our current bedroom set is older than either of us).

Us too. A couple of years ago I borrowed my husband's truck. I misjudged the width of a parking space and plowed into a column. Now my husband drives around with a daily reminder of my horrible parking skills!

I have mostly practical gifts on my list. If I get something to add to one of my collections, that's great, but I'm not gonna ask for them. I want this year to be more simple (I have a hard time convincing hubby to go simple!) I love funky socks and I really, really need some more warm socks, so I figured funky warm socks would be great! Hubby got me the best pair last year! They are locally hand-knitted wool socks. They are way too thick to wear with any shoes or boots, but they keep my feet nice and toasty around the house. I've also asked for the upstairs bathroom to be finished. I may be on my own for that one....

Wow Frosty, where do you live and what kind of work do you do that you haven't been able to find some kind of job in 6 yrs? That's horrible. Is work that hard to find or did you have medical problems? Or am I being too nosy? Hope things look up for you soon.

Thing is i can do just about anything drywall, plumbing, hvac, auto repair,pc repair, auto cad you just about name it and i have done it. I got the education while i was in school for all those and self taught the rest. Everytime i apply for a job its were not hiring at this time. I dunno if thats a lie or what but i get tired of hearing it. Work is not a easy to find here at all or the ones that are hiring want a interview and apparently im not good at that or i scare them when they ask me what i do for "fun" or ""hobby" and its pyrotechnician (i blow stuff up lmao :) )some 1.3g but mostly 1.4g and they look at you like you are some NUT! Then the jobs that are hiring that i can get have heights and i am scared to death of heights so i have to pass on those.
I think all home repair stuff people are doig it themselves which i dont blame them at all but.......I mean hell id love to get a warehouse job usually what i did anyway just companies are shutting down. Hell one i applied for had the job then before i started the doors were chained shut. Sign closed.....Lucky me
Edit: When textiles started shutting down it got real bad to find work b/c all those mills had people looking for work at same time as me its harder to find a job when you have 10 times the people looking too. Plus the local places and sale outs over seas. Its a nighmare here.

What other collections do you have?
I think having collections is smart because people always know what to get you.
My husband has collections but he makes the mistake of collecting only one thing at a time. And then he gets bombarded by items until he has way too many. His most recent collection is pirate memorabilia (Last 5 years) and he is now the Creepy Guy at work with too much pirate stuff in his office.
I on the other hand collect hostess items (platers, serveware, tablecloths etc) and party planning stufff. And you can never have too much of those!

You are right Frosty the competition for jobs is stiff. My husband does the hiring for his company. And he gets thousands of applicants, most with Multiple college degress who are willing to work for $9 an hour.
But Frosty you should look at government retraining/ placement programs.
My aunt was in a similar situation but the government paid for retraining so she had an edge and then helped her with job placement.
My father was laidoff and had trouble getting rehired also (because of his age) and the govenrment found a job for him and paid his salary during the company's probation period.
And if you want to go back to school. You should qualify for free tuition at your local college.
Good Luck Frosty.
It is sad to see someone with so many skills not have a good paying job
but someone so talented can't remain unemployed for long.

Yeap its sucks i do small engine repair also i do work for neighbors but i cant take their money...So they do favors back like cutting my grass and weed eating and i feel horrible about it but i cant tell them not to they are adults you know they are determined. Goverment help HA tried it you either make too much or dont fit some stupid catergory. Color blind test has took a dump on many jobs i apply for and breathing test. I can accept being red/ green color blind but the breathing test is fried b/c i grew up in a home and went to school in military housing that was shut down due to asbestos and i think that has is a big issuse....I just have not gone out of my way to prove that it is b/c im not sure and i dont want to start pointing fingers until i know that lungs are fried b/c of that (Is on paper file that it happened for clean up/shutdown but you know) Ontop of that the jobs i have been exposed to with asbestos/idustrial chemicals etc...Theres no way i could prove where it came from....I feel like i am rambling but theres lots of reasons why i cant get work

Mr. Griswold is the Nintendo DS really that addictive? I love a lot of the games and I thought about saving up for one but I don't need another addiction.
DanoNJ... when I first read your post I thought your were brilliant but then I realized that if you get 5 more hours in the day... they will just expect you to do more 10 more hours of stuff.....
Chris no power bill for any month would be great. Our average water/electricity/trash bill is around $400 per month. We want to do a big display this year but I am dreading how much it is gonna cost.

Oh, let's see...nutcrackers, German smokers, music boxes, Byer's Choice carolers, antiques (especially Christmas antiques and kitchen antiques), socks :) ...I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting. And this doesn't even include what hubby collects!

My wish for this year would be that the economy improves enough for our people to get back to work.
Bring our brave men and women home from foriegn lands safely.
Cures for every illness and affliction.
And for the love of GOD, peace on earth!

Yeah I have one of those Pandora bracelets so people can always get me a bead for it. Problem is I always get them I have a ton now! This year I'm asking for a pair of Pandora earrings to go with the bracelets I have. Think I might get my sister a pair for Christmas now that I think of it. If any of you guys are curious about them for the wife then go for it she will love them and it would save you a trip to Meijer the day before searching for some mixer or other kitchen appliance she DOESNT want!

Or a good bag of coffee beans
Oh yeah! I'm taking my 13 year old to Tim Horton's to buy a travel mug & a huge bag of coffee for her to give my hubby for Christmas! A gift that he can share !!
I'd REALLY REALLY REALLY like to get our bathroom redone. The floor rotted out under the corner shower, which now has a hole the shape of hubby's foot in it. So it's been a giant dust bunny / spider web / talc powder dust collector for a couple years now. I'd be happy with a toilet & sink that are not baby blue or made for really short people. The shower can go away & a nice armoire can take its place. Oh, and I'd like tiles that are actually attached to the floor! That's not asking much, is it??? It may be easier to just tear and/or burn the house down & start over.

LOL Lisa! I would like walls in our laundry room to meet the floor! But I guess other than prop and decoration making, another use for spray foam is for gap sealing and we have plenty of that bulging out.
What I'd really like to have for Christmas is a real greenhouse. But thats kind of unrealistic for our situation, but I can keep asking for one can't I?

my mother and i enjoy the Pandora bracelets but they can be costly. We each have different brand beads. Mom likes themes and I want to work up on halloween theme. although I have black and green going.
